1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.3 Liter Quad 4 SOHC from North America

One of the BEST choices around!!

I replaced the catalytic converter at 175,000 miles.

The lock clips in the tilt steering wheel have broken twice since I owned it.

I replaced the starter coil at 175,000 which was very costly, it would have been LOTS cheaper had I not gone to the dealer ship.

I have replaced the shocks & struts recently at 193,000.

I have replaced the lower ball joint at 193,000.

I have owned the car for almost 5 years and spent less than 1,200.00 on repairs and maintenance including a FULL set of NEW Michilen Tires !!

General Comments:

The car is quick for the size motor it has, as well as a smooth ride, it is a little soft in the corners, nothing major. The ABS system in the car has saved my family & I on quite a few occasions.

As well as superb performance & transmission, the car runs better than any car I have ever owned, even after being a rental car for 5.5 years this car still runs like it was somebody's baby!!

I would suggest this vehicle to anybody who would like a reliable vehicle, please make sure it was well taken care of first!!

My car & it's performance, still stuns mechanics, and friends & family to this day!!

The car is a money pit

Headlight dimmer switch needed replacement.

Head gasket.

Coil housing assembly.

Front motor mount broken.

Heater core.

Transmission failed.

Both windows came out of tracks.

Windshield washer fluid pump.

General Comments:

The car has obviously been nothing but trouble in the short time that I owned it. Besides for its decent styling, the car has absolutely nothing else to offer.

I agree with you my grand am has had the falling go wrong with it. every thing that has to do with the front driver side wheel, heater-core, radiator hoses, starter, fan motor, front brakes, calipers, rotors, pads, rear shocks, front wheel bearings, control arms, complete exhaust system, fog light, and THE ENTIRE ENGINE. and more i just can rememeber.

Not bad. Not incredibly good, but not bad

Alternator needed to be replaced.

The "Check Oil" light comes on periodically for no reason.

Front brakes replaced (pads and rotors)

The fan motor dies out every once and a while. I have to pop the hood and bang on it to get it going again.

Water Pump and the Water Pump Housing went at the same time. Good luck finding a Water Pump Housing. I waited 3 weeks to get one. It had to come from a Chevy dealership in the state of Tennessee!

The whole PCV Valve unit needed to be replaced as well.

General Comments:

This car hasn't been too bad. I had a pre-purchase inspection and a compression test done to the vehicle prior to purchasing it, and nothing was found to be defective or in need of replacement. The stock sound system is really awesome.

But, I've heard that things can get pretty expensive when stuff starts to go wrong with this engine. I find even general maintenance is a little more expensive.

I've heard a lot of negative things about the Quad 4. My mechanic told me that it was the first GM motor totally engineered by a computer. He also said mine is in the best shape he's seen, and that most quad 4's have a lot of stuff wrong with them.

Get's me where I'm going!

I bought the car from an auction. Camshaft Housing needs gasket, needed new radiator (used) Car runs hot, had to forgo thermostat. Car won't stop leaking Coolant and Oil. Needed 2 new mounts. Driver side door key doesn't work.

General Comments:

Has good acceleration for a 2.3, hugs curves at high speeds. Quick steering response, great suspension. Extremly comfortable. System sounds good. Gets great gas miles. Can put 10 gals in and last me a week with a 16 gallon tank.
