1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE quad 4 from North America

Summary:

If I only new I wouldn't have bought it

Faults:

The computer chip was corroded and all the electrical stopped working and the car would shut off the 2nd day I owned it.

The battery, alternator, motor mounts, front axle, bearings all had to be replaced within the 1dt year.

The transmission went at about 105,000 miles and that cost me $2000 this year.

I had to replace the brakes about 3 or 4 times total.

I just replaced the motor mounts again.

The air conditioning compressor is ready to die on me.

My car just failed inspection due to my brake light, blinkers and hazards not working (again).

General Comments:

I don't; want to get rid of the car because I put so much money into it I feel as though I am throwing money away.

When things aren't going wrong it really is a good car.

1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE 4 Door 2.3L Quad 4 SOHC from North America

Summary:

Average

Faults:

Not much has gone wrong with the car since I aquired it from my father. The motor mount needed to be replaced for $350.00.

Headlamp switch went out. That repair totaled $400.00.

Air conditioning was non exsistent.

General Comments:

This car was pretty mediocre on the performance. I recommend buying the DOHC version of this engine for a little more horsepower. The Quad 4 is a very reliable motor with no problems. Its very loud at high speeds. Overall fuel economy is very solid at 22 city and 32 highway. Transmission shifts smoothly. I would recommend that anyone buying a grand am search for a GT model with the Quad 4 DOHC. The gt has a sportier look and 16 inch alloy wheels. Overall these are solid cars.

1994 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.1 from North America

Summary:

This car is an accident waiting to happen!!!

Faults:

Well, to start out with the car drove fine for the first year. When the mileage on the car reached approx. 23,000 the Serpentine belt assembly/tensioner fell off the motor while driving. I was driving down a very busy road with my 6 month old son when this took place. The brakes locked up along with the steering wheel. I almost got into an accident and barely got into a parking lot. This was in the middle of winter on icy roads.

I have had nothing but a head ache with this car. There was a leak at 31,000 miles from the oil pan located at the bottom of the engine. Which cost me an arm and a leg to replace the seal.

Then again at 85,000 miles it began leaking agian. The engine shakes horribly. It almost dies at every light since 70,000 miles.

I am replacing spark plugs as often as oil changes almost.

The windows go down sideways and need once agian the power window assembly and tension bars to be replaced with is close to $600 a set.

The electrical system is shot. I had to take all of my interior lights out because they will not shut off. Although a mechanic fixed this once. The switches have been replaced.

The brakes are constantly needing replacement along with the rotors.

The gas cap on this car doesn't want to shut or lock.

The drivers side window because it rolled down sideways broke the interior door handle of the drivers side thus preventing me from getting out of the car on the drivers side.

The transmission has had to have several transmission flushes because it locks up on me and needed replacement at 45,000 miles.

The car dies while driving down the road with no warning the electrical system cuts off and the car dies. Unable to control the car barely can get it to the side of the road and have spun out of control once from this.

This car has had too many problems too list and the cost of repair is ungodly.

General Comments:

If you do not own this car. Save yourself the cost of repair and heartache of having to pretty much replace everything in it. Settle for anything besides Pontiac .

I have contacted the manufacturer and have been pretty much turned away from any help. This car should be a recall. In my eyes it's a death trap.

I also have Pontiac grand am gt, but the only thing wrong with mine is the window. I personally think it's a great car for the price you most likely don't do routine checks.

I also owned a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am GT from the day it rolled off the lot up until a week ago when it was stolen from me by a reckless driver. That car was the best car I have ever owned or driven. It had exceptional handling and was incredibly well constructed. The only real trouble I ever had was when a piston in the engine blew at 140000 miles and I replaced the entire engine without a second thought. If I could've saved it this time, I would've paid any price that was asked.

Pontiac made an amazing car that year. It's a shame they threw that all out the window when their new style came out. I can only pray to someday find another one that somebody else took care of like I did mine.
