1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.1 from North America

Summary:

It's cheap, so you pay for what you get in quality

Faults:

My alternator went out, and my tensioner belt pulley broke.

General Comments:

I personally don't like the car, it rides rough and is noisy for a V-6, but it is a very clean, nice car though.

1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.2 Quad from North America

Summary:

I wouldn't buy another one

Faults:

I have just gotten this car out of the shop (to the tune of $1200) for a blown head gasket, catalytic converter and timing chain. I have a friend with the same car with approximately the same # of miles who just had her car repaired for the same thing(s). I would seriously like to look into forcing a recall of this particular car. Any help there?

The Quad4 head gasket and brake problems are well-known; GM chooses to shrug its shoulders and ignore them. This is the major reason that I will never buy another GM product, and I have convinced at least 9 people that I know to shop GM's competition. I just hope that the chain continues so that all of these lemons will be off the road SOON!

1994 Pontiac Grand Am V6 from North America

Summary:

A good car for people who are monetarily secure

Faults:

Bought it used from a friend. Since then the brakes wore out and the alternator died. Plus repaired damage from two accidents... airbag works! :)

General Comments:

Comfortable ride.

Has the stuff you need for a quick start (ie. short entrance onto the highway). Great for highway driving.

Cute looks.

A/C has always gotten hot/cold when it's needed.

Sound system keeps me happy.

ABS very helpful.

Rarely has a problem but when it does it can be pretty expensive. Relatively expensive insurance. If you can afford it, go for it!

I bought my 1994 Grand Am SE used from a dealership almost 3 years ago and it had 122252 Km's on it. It now has over 207000 Km's on it and rides generally well.

I have gotten the oil and filters changed regularly.

I have gotten the front pads and rotors changed as well as the ignition control module and all 3 coils both twice.

I had to get the alternator and battery changed.

I got a recall notice in the winter of 2000 about an ignition switch problem.

I now have a transmission problem causing the car to shudder when turning at high speeds and when driving straight there seems to be a knocking in the front end.
