1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE Quad 4 from North America

Summary:

You either will love it or hate it..

Faults:

Brakes almost killed me after completely failing with no earlier warning of wear. I would think this is a serious problem...

Windows of course, like many others, just do not work.

Haven't had any gasket problems, but I do believe any time now I will.

Engine runs very cool.

General Comments:

Car overall runs fine, but the brakes are very hazardous to the driver.

Looks good, feels good and really has all the luxuries you need to get from one place to another.

1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE Quad4 from North America

Summary:

A really sour lemon

Faults:

In the first month of owning the car, had the transmission wiring replaced, transmission switch and alternator.

6 weeks later, had to have another alternator, new electrical wiring and an ignition switch.

We have had to replace the battery on a regular basis. The average life of one in this car is 6 months if you are lucky.

Changed the anti-freeze and flushed the radiator which caused a sensor to blow.

Most recently, another alternator and ignition switch after it had been recalled for an ignition switch relay to fix a problem.

General Comments:

This car is definitely a Monday or a Friday product.

1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.3 Liter from North America

Summary:

Generally good

Faults:

Transmission went at 127000. This was due to the car's transmission overheating from being overloaded on a 1000 mile trip.

Alternator went at 132000.

Power steering pump blew up at 149000.

Motor went at 149499.

Motor went again at 152566. Reason for the motor going so soon the second time was it was manufactured incorrectly.

General Comments:

Even though I have had many costly repairs to make on this car, I rate it very well. My ignorance to the cars capabilities have led to those problems and when it is running, it has been very solid.

There is no rust whatsoever on the car. And I feel it has a comfortable interior and looks nice.

Comfortable on long trips. Has never let me down on a long trip either.

Maintenance is cheap and easy.

1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

This car is an A+++

Faults:

Well the motor mount cracked at around 175000 km and caused my car to shake like crazy when in "PARK", but the mechanic said "It's just too much speed, if you drive 145km everywhere you go it will happen... no matter what kind of car you have".

General Comments:

The car drives great. It feels like it hugs the road even in three feet of snow.

The brakes work perfectly, the interior is tough enough for daily use with kids (it never tears), the thing starts in -50 weather without using the block heater, drives as smooth and flys around the corners like a dream.

It is a very nice looking car and it's also very durable, reliable, safe and tender enough for a back seat full of children. I would never part with my baby (My 1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE).

1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE 4 cylinder QOHC from North America

Faults:

The rotors are the only real problem the car has had. I had them changed at 46,000 miles, which was fine with me. The rotors are going bad again and will have them changed for the last time. I haven't had problems with my brakes as others have. I guess I'm lucky there.

General Comments:

I love the car. It takes twists and turns like a dream and goes like a tank in snow. It stops on a dime. No complaints other than the rotors, but what car is perfect?

1994 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

1994 GT V6, the only way to fly!

Faults:

The alternator went at 88,000, which didn't seem bad.

It likes brakes, have replaced the front pads every 25,000. Which helps keep costs down. Have only had to replace the rotors once.

General Comments:

It's been a great car! The GT model we have looks great, and it has run great since new. Get the 3.1 V6, it's the only way to fly!

Agreed, you HAVE to get the 3.1 V6 for this model. I just bought one used with only 25000 miles on it and have put about 20000 on it. I've had to make a few non-engine repairs (including 1K for a new rear-axle), but the engine has given me no trouble and runs like a dream. Accelerates with attitude. Real easy to change oil & air filters. If a mechanic anywhere wants to change your PCV valve, tell him you'll do it yourself because it's a cinch, and the part only costs about 3 bucks. My only complaint is that the suspension and ride isn't very great. A small bump sometimes feels like a speed bump at moderate speed (45+).
