1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE from North America

Summary:

Love at First Sight

Faults:

My Brakes don't operate properly, such as one day my Anti-lock brake system will work, but the next it won't.

General Comments:

I have put 17,000 miles on my car in 6 months taking road trips with my friends and such and it has been a very reliable vehicle. Even when I am driving it harshly, my car still "behaves." Also my car handles well on slick roads.

1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE SOHC Quad 4 from North America

Summary:

A good investment if you are willing to invest some money

Faults:

My head gasket blew at 125,000 miles.

Seats are beginning to wear.

The gas guage does not work properly.

The check oil light comes on all of the time and is not signifying any problems.

The body is beginning to rust in some spots.

The oil sending unit has gone bad twice.

The heater core went bad and had to be replaced.

General Comments:

I love the car in general, but have had to invest more than it is worth in repairs. I seem to have it in the shop every two weeks or so. Repairs have put a large dent in my pocket.

The car is generally a nice ride and is pretty quick for a Quad four engine. If it did not have so many technical problems it would be a wonderful car.

1994 Pontiac Grand Am GT Sport Coupe 3.3 V6 from North America

Summary:

Great if you're willing to pay a bit

Faults:

When I bought it:

The driver side fog light was out.

The cruise control didn't work.

The 2 front speakers were in the process of blowing.

The passenger side power lock didn't work.

The ac didn't work.

The passenger side weather strip was loose.

The defoggers didn't work.

I have fixed none of those.

After I bought it:

Passenger side window motor broke.

Passenger side weather strip fell off.

Power steering blew.

Front and rear brakes blew.

Front rotors blew.

Leak in coolant system.

General Comments:

This car is quick, and looks great for it's year, however some of the matihence can be a problem if you don't have enough funding. Also when I first got it, it got 374 miles to a tank of gas, now it only gets 319. Could be from the winter weather, but who knows.

1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE - 4dr. 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

Buy it new... used cars are trouble!!!

Faults:

I have a previous review of my wonderful car that I purchased NEW in 1994.

I am seeing a trend here after reading the other reviews on the same car.

People that are buying USED cars are just asking for trouble. You don't know what kind of people have driven that car, nor do you know if that car was broken in correctly and maintained properly.

I bought my car brand new in 1994 and I can tell you that it has been impeccably maintained. I haven't had any serious malfunctions and I love my car. I consider it a very wise investment and I am glad that I chose this car. I would buy another Grand Am in a heartbeat (new), but mine is doing wonderful at 145,000 miles, I may never need another one! And guess what. The Air conditioning works like the day I bought it. The paint still looks great too. My car is garaged, so that helps to keep the paint nice. And regular washings and waxing helps too.

Consider buying NEW next time and keep your car up. The "break in" time is very important (the first 1,000 miles). This is important - Don't buy a car that was once a rental, you are just asking for trouble. You can bet every idiot has driven that car and do you think people really car about rental cars? They don't own them, they don't care.

My car has had regular oil changes, belts, hoses and fluids inspected and replenished when needed. I have had the usual things go out (after 100,000 miles - water pump, heater core) No problem, no car is problem free. But you can save yourself a lot of trouble by buying new and don't buy someone else's problems. Why do you think people get rid of their cars in the first place.

Good luck and happy motoring.
