2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4 with ram air from North America

Summary:

Sharp, sporty, and reliable

Faults:

Steering wheel jerks during heavy acceleration.

Rack and pinion went bad at 28000 miles, possibly due to the torque steering. Dealer replaced at no charge to me.

Pontiac should have put a more powerful engine in the GT model.

Manual transmission is not an option.

General Comments:

I was taken the first time I saw this car.

It's fast enough, although it could be faster.

Handles like a dream.

Comfortable for long rides.

OK gas mileage.

Extremely reliable.

It's no BMW, but that's why it's $10,000 cheaper.

I love it. It's a big hit with my friends and it handles like a dream.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE1 2.4L from North America

Summary:

A high-cost mistake

Faults:

Driver side window stopped working 5 months after I bought the car.

5 months later every time I braked at anything over 60mph the whole car would shudder. Brake pads had to be replaced (luckily under warranty). 1 week later back to the dealer to get the brake pads shaved (still shuddering).

3 months later the ac stopped working in the middle of the summer - what a joy!

Just today had to have the car towed to dealership for possible replacement of transmission on a not even 3 year old car with only 49500 miles on it - a cost of about $3000 because I did not get the extended warranty.

Also on sharp turns (especially u-turns) at extremely slow speeds the car groans - but I've been told there's nothing can be done about that.

CD player has also stopped working.

A complete mistake on my part to have ever bought the car.

General Comments:

Would never again buy a Pontiac car. In the space of under 2 years I have had the car to the dealership at least 4 times. This is just not good enough for a relatively new car. My 11-year old Fiat Punto in Ireland which took a real hammering and had over 160000 miles on it did not even cause me this much trouble.

Will never even consider any GM car again, even if they're giving them away for free.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Will it be alive when it's paid for??

Faults:

The brakes and the rotors need to be changed way too often. This is becoming very costly.

The "service engine soon" light has began coming on too frequently for no apparent reason because every time I take it in, they find nothing wrong. This is costly, also.

The side mirrors are not break-away. I will never own a car without them again.

General Comments:

I am crossing my fingers that this vehicle is still alive when it is paid off. I drive a great distance, and a reliable car is a must. The brakes are my biggest upset with this car. They have to be replaced too often. I doubt I will own another car by Pontiac.

I have an 2000 Pontiac GrandAm. I've had my brakes replaced and rotors (front). Just today (March 19, 2003) my service engine light has came on. My engine doesn't seem to be running as smoothly has before, but after reading the the above comments I'm not going to worry about it. Will I purchase another pontiac vehicle. NO...

2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4 V6 sfi ram air from North America

Summary:

Very safe and efficient starter car

Faults:

At 15,000 miles the brake's started grinding badly usually at slower speeds and before stopping very noticeable, thought I lost the front end at first.

Went back to dealer had them checked and replaced. Within the next 300 miles a new noise developed, which was narrowed down to the tires went back to dealer. Had new tires put on noise went away.

At 20,000 miles I started to get a lot of light problems, headlights and fog lights went out, then dash lights started going out. Went back to dealer where I left the car for a week to have whole car checked and replace what was bad. Still under warranty.

Now at 60,000 plus the rubber molding on the rear bumper is starting to warp and come out, put performance brakes on no problems yet.

The carpet's are pretty dead especially on driver's side, seat's are uncomfortable, also will not lock into place at time's.

General Comments:

Overall the grand am gt is very quick, sporty, handling could be improved.

I have had no problems lately since tune-up.

Spacious trunk folding rear seat's help out.

Instrument panel is easily accessible.

Ground effects are easy to change out.

Lots of aftermarket part's can be added.
