I have replaced the brakes and rotors several times!
I am now replacing the transmission for the second time. The first replacement was at 120,000 miles.
The head gasket has been replaced once at 105,000 miles.
The thermostat was replaced at 90,000 miles.
The temperature control knob is broken.
The center console lid is broken off at the hinge.
The clear coat has peeled off of fender and door moldings.
The rear struts are both broken.
The car handles and rides nice.
The interior has held up very well to wear and tear.
The car is not a race car, but performs ok for a heavier car.
OH MY GOD, DO I AGREE WITH YOU! everything you wrote that you have replaced, I have also replaced, mine is a 1995, and I have replaced everything on this car, now I'm having problems overheating, have changed the water pump, and its still overheating, changing the thermostat again! I will never buy another Pontiac again... I've sunk way to much money into this car for it to be worth it... braking system rots, the heating system rots, rides nice yes! when its not broken down, I've kept my mechanic working, and I'm paying!
My 1998 Grand Prix (I bought new) has had the brakes replaced numerous times, rotors turned, alternator replaced, most of the trim and knobs inside have fallen off, something to do with transmission when it was less than 6 months old, power window on the drivers side is now broken. Recently overheated (118,000 miles) replaced the thermostat, water pump, had the radiator flushed and is still overheating. I have now been told the head gasket needs replaced or head is cracked, or possibly the intake manifold cracked. Also cylinder # 4 is misfiring. It was not driven while hot. I pulled over and turned the motor off before the temp gauge got in the red and had it towed to prevent costly damage. I would not recommend a Pontiac! I just want to get it fixed and get another car.
