Summary:

Terrible, Unreliable, and gut wrenching seats

Faults:

The 99 Toyota Camry is horrible!!! My grandmother recently was at a store and the car was running perfectly normal. When she came out and started the car she heard a very loud bang and turned the car off right away. Well smoke was everywhere and she had it toed off and the whole engine's messed up now! At 62,000 miles something in the cylinder block got hit and shot through the hard steel causing oil to seep out Everywhere!!

The car's suspension is horrible and you feel every bump in the road.

There's an annoying road noise in the back seat that really stinks when on trips.

The brakes are way too sensitive.

There aren't enough features for the price you pay---no leather, no automatic things.

The seats are way too uncomfortable; yeah they're fine when you first get in, but couldn't Toyota soften them up a bit.

General Comments:

The car runs good with plenty horses, but with an unexpected problem like that I have to let others know! Do Not Buy This Car! We took care of it-- changed the oil on time, spark plugs, belts, brakes, and air filters. My grandmother was not the least bit rough on this car (she drove 5 under the speed limit), and then for something like this to happen when she's 85, That's just horrible. If you want a good car I would go for a Buick, because of the comfortability, power, and bells+whistles, and size. Trust me and do not get a 99 Camry LE.

Its very likely that this car was never taken out on the highway for a good run. Every car needs it to clean out all the carbon deposits.

Just a guess anyway.

I am very sorry about your engine blowing up. Personally, we have 2 1999 Toyota Camries in our family. One has 43000 miles and the other 73000 miles. The one with the leather seats is uncomfortable a little bit while the cloth seats do us great even on long trips. Neither car has any rattles anywhere and we enjoy them immensely. You can feel a slight difference in how the car with 73000 miles rides over bumpy roads, but we haven't had any problems whatsoever with either one. You did mention that it was running perfect until the engine blew. Sorry you had that happen, good luck in finding another car.

Summary:

Phenomenal

Faults:

Not a thing! I'm still stunned.

General Comments:

I have a serious aversion to dealer service departments and as such, saw very little of them during the six years and 300k miles I drove it. 99% were expressway miles.

My previous review re: Mk IV and Camry being best cars I've ever owned HOLDS.

My opinion: The V-6 definitely holds up better than the 4 cylinder which was available back when I bought this car. The overdrive allows it to turn much slower at highway speeds than the 4 cylinder offered as a cheaper option. The new 4 cylinder Toyota came out with (available on newer models) should be better. Value: Exceptional for the mileage I put on it.

Summary:

I would highly recommend the Toyota Camry for value, reliability and refinement

Faults:

I had to have the strut supports replaced at approximately 20,000 miles.

The check engine light comes on every few thousand miles, for no apparent reason. I ignore it, as long as all other gauges look okay, and after a couple of hundred miles the light goes off again. I think it's just a little electronic glitch affecting many '99 Camrys.

General Comments:

I've had the Camry LE for 5 years now and have had only two major problems with it (see above).

The interior is a bit on the bland side, but the seats and carpeting still have a nice plushness to them.

The "Blue Dusk Pearl" paint on my Camry has held up well. When washed and waxed, it looks almost brand new.
