1994 Toyota Pickup DX from North America

Summary:

Best vehicle I have ever had

Faults:

Head gasket started to go at 72,000 miles, but was replaced by dealer under factory recall.

Starter started to go out at 90,000 but found out it was a simple fix to replace copper contacts inside starter to make it engage with flywheel.

Front left blinker bulb went out once and that is the only light in 11 years.

General Comments:

Great truck. I maintain this truck well, but use it for farm and rental business as well as daily commute. This T100 Toyota truck has been super reliable and still has the original clutch and brakes after 116,500 miles of work and play. I use it to pull work trailers and ATV trailers et and it still runs like it was new. The upholstery is like new yet and so is the paint. I have no squeaks and no broken switches or ANYTHING. This tuck gets from 17-25mpg and has a 24gal tank. Great cruising range on hwy. I have tried to sell this tuck twice because I'm bored of it, but it is to practical/reliable to part with.

1994 Toyota Pickup from North America

Faults:

Nothing! This truck has been a workhorse and absolutely reliable. The only work done on the vehicle has been routine maintenance.

(One minor note... The bed of the truck has begun to rust. However, this is most likely related to lack of replacing a tailpipe on a timely basis.)

General Comments:

This truck has been the most reliable vehicle we've ever owned. We've also used it hard (we have a farm and a small woodworking business, so it hauls around a lot of stuff, animals, etc.). It's incredibly useful!

The truck also has tons of power. Additionally, since it has 4WD, we can go anywhere on our farm (or out on snowy days) without fear of getting stuck.

The truck has a stretch cab. Technically, the truck can carry four passengers. However, you have to basically be a midget to sit in the back. As our children have grown, the space in those seats seems increasingly cramped. However, it's relatively rare that we travel in this vehicle as a family.

My only concern with this truck is its safety rating. The safety ratings I saw indicated that the driver would be seriously injured or killed if he was in a major accident.

This is in no way intended to refute safety standards, but my '94 Toyota pickup was at a dead stop when it was rear ended by someone in an SUV going 60 mph. Knocked me out for a second. Bent the ends of the frame and destroyed the bed and some rear suspension. Repaired it for around $300 in (admittedly, junkyard) parts. The driver of the SUV was taken away in an ambulance and the SUV engine was split it half... seriously.

So the guy in the SUV got taken away in an ambulance; what happened to you? Did you sustain any injuries?

1994 Toyota Pickup Xtracab 4x4 2.4L 22RE from North America

Summary:

Absolutely the best vehicle I have and will continue to own!

Faults:

My starter needed to be replaced at 104,000 miles.

General Comments:

This is the best vehicle I have ever owned, as it faithfully starts and runs and gets me anywhere I need to go. I am the original owner of the truck, and have had it now for 10-years. I expect to own and operate it for at least another 10-years before I even start to consider replacing it. The 2.4L 4-cylinder engines has more than enough power for normal everyday driving, and I have towed the 12-foot dual axle U-Haul trailers packed to the upper limits of weight 3 times across several states, and the truck had no issues towing, except that on large uphill grades the speed would drop off dramatically, needing to stay in third gear until I was able to reach the summits.

Mechanically the truck is extremely sound, with no issues to note except that the starter motor was replaced at 104,000 miles.

The paint still holds the color and brilliance as it did 10-years ago. I keep the truck washed and waxed regularly, which has gone a long way in the truck's excellent appearance. I am still able to turn heads as I drive by people at the overall excellent condition that the truck is still in.
