2000 Volkswagen Beetle GLS review from North America
"Outstanding"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I had to replace the Ignition Coil within the first month of owning the car. I've also had to replace the Bank 1 O2 Sensor and the Air Bag indicator light recently came on.
General comments?
Overall, I am excited with the handling, comfort and fuel mileage that I get in from this little car. I purchased a 6 year old car with over 42k mile. The few problems I've experienced have been very minor and expected. It has been a very reliable car. I purchased the car when gas prices sky rocket so I could save money at the pump and to keep a lot of miles off of my Ford Expedition (My true baby). It has served it purpose beautifully. I've found myself enjoying this little car more and more. I also own a 2003 VW Passat with the 1.8L Turbo and haven't experience any problems at all. I did have a problem with the beetle burning and excessive amount of oil when I first purchased the car, but as with all of my auto, I put Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Oil and haven't had a problem with it burning oil. I've been hard on this car and if it can handle my day-to-day driving, then it's a winner. I drive from Southern Virgina to Northern Virginia (3.5 hours) at least twice a month and my average speed is 70 - 80 mph and it handles great. I would buy another VW in heart beat.
