2000 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 from North America

When I first purchased this VW, I was so happy!!...

Then three months after owning it, my water pump went out... why, because they put in a plastic propeller... it doesn't make sense; why would they would put plastic in a water pump... well after that the car was OK...

Then 8 months later, my ignition went out in my car (so I thought). Purchased a new ignition switch. After taking three months of my special time trying to figure out how to take the switch out... I refuse to take to the dealer... I had full coverage insurance warranty and an extended warranty, and it still cost me $1100.00 to get the water pump changed... but I did do the serpentine belt also...

Once I finally figured out how to take the ignition out, found out it wasn't the ignition switch... it was a bar that was in the back of the ignition, and that ran inside my column to the other side, where the turn signal switch is that broke... so I replaced that part. Car was fine for 6 months...

Then my passenger window decided to come UN-spooled... took the passenger door panel off... and I can't see behind the door after the panel is removed; they put a metal plate in there with rivets... so it's impossible to replace. So I forced very carefully a piece of wood back there to hold my window from falling and put the panel back on. So my passenger window doesn't roll down... then.

Two years later... my car decided to overheat... so I changed the thermostat... The car ran fine and I thought I was in the clear... but as soon as I went to test drive the car, it started over heating. Right now I am clueless as to what it is... the water pump is fine... thermostat fine... the radiator itself was just changed two weeks prior to my car overheating (some little kid decided to throw a brick in front of my car and broke a chunk off my radiator).. kinda glad he ran and I didn't catch him cause I would be in jail and not writing this...

Well I am getting radiator fluid to both lower and upper radiator hoses... my fans are working... WHAT can it be???

Also this will be the last VW I own or ever buy again... I am going to sell it and buy me a FORD!!!

Check or have your head gasket checked. Could be cracked or you may have warped the head, if it's an aluminum head and it overheated.

Amazingly efficient and reliable

Battery lasted 113000 miles...

AC went out, but back in Florida... under 1k to fix...

The car runs like brand new.. still have original plugs and wires!!! 28 MPG all day.

General Comments:

This car will easily go 300k with a tune up. 2nd owner, great bang for the buck.

Change out your plugs and wires and you can probably get better than 28 MPG. Also, estimating that you'll get 300K out of a motor when your only at 139K is a bit much. Especially when you've basically admitted that you don't perform basic maintenance by stating you still have the original plugs at 139K.

Sporty, fun, great handling, love it!!!

There is a little crack in the heater core (which it still has, but it is totally fine to drive with), so it loses coolant every once and awhile.

The coolant reservoir tank has been replaced twice.

The glovebox has fallen off, but can be put back in its place.

There hasn't really been much wrong with the car, just a few problems with the coolant system. Other than that, it runs great, and not too much money has been put into "repairs." The regular maintenance has really taken care of everything.

General Comments:

My family has had this car since the beginning, so I know the 2 previous owners. It has been taken care of immaculately, and because of that, the coolant system is really the only problem to speak of here.

I have the 6 speed manual, and it really feels great. It's quick, responsive, and the handling is great! The leather is superb, and looks like it is new.

The backseat is a little small for larger people, but no big deal usually. There are so many little things that are great about the car that you usually don't get in a car like this. Heated seats, power sunroof, memory seats, on board computer, outside/inside auto temp control, rear sunshade, monsoon sound system (we've added a subwoofer, and got a new radio with XM/iPod), traction control, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, and an awesome VR6 engine.

The lights are a little weak sometimes, but the fog lights make up for it. The feel of the car is great, it's very luxurious, but so sporty at the same time. You can sit back and enjoy the ride, or you can rev it up and watch it fly!

It's a great car, and even though a lot of people say there are lots of problems, I have just not come across them. I get my oil changed every 5,000 miles religiously (5w40 syn), always fill premium gas, keep it clean, and don't let problems fester. It's totally worth the money, and the mark 4s really do shine!
