I trade in my 1998 Neon for a 2002--what a mistake. The engine light came after 17,000 miles. Upon quick acceleration, the engine beginnings to misfire. Performances and gas mileage drop severely. I brought it to the dealer for an 18,000-mile service, upon which the engine came off--only for a week. I'm due back at the dealer. I have heard rumors about the engine coil harness being the culprit? Have anyone experience this? E-mail: dcgreene@hotmail.com.
Wait for the 2003 Neon. In my opinion, the 2000,2001 and 2002 Neons are the same except for a few minor changes.
I just recently purchased a 2002 Neon SE with 34,000 miles.
Ihad it weeks when I tjought I heard my first missfire in the engine, but have heard it a few more times. I would very much like to know if what you said is true.
I've had a 2002 Dodge Neon for almost 3 years now. I starting hearing a slight misfire at around 28,000 miles. I found replacing the spark plugs with a higher caliber (Platinum 3) plug eliminated any and all problems. I'm at 35,000 miles and haven't had a problem since.
I purchased a USED 2002 Neon in May of 2005 that had approximately 31,000 miles on it. That summer of 2005 I started having problems with the car. First, the engine overheated because the gears were not changing properly and it was staying in first gear the whole time. Then, everything within the interior failed to work properly, i.e. the gas gauge posted "above full" all the time, the speedometer broke, none of the interior lights worked at all: the radio lights, the overhead light, the mileage light, or any of that! It seemed as if there was a fuse shortage, but all the fuses were fine. After getting it "fixed" the 3rd time, it was okay until a year later in August of 2006. It did the same thing, and all me and my boyfriend did to fix it was wiggle the fuses around. It seems there is some BAD wiring and computer generated problems with this car. Next, in September this year, the car started going into neutral while I was driving... on the interstate especially!! (Scary Feeling!) Well I took it to a friend of mine, and at first thought I was going to have to buy a new transmission. But he figured out the problem, it had to do with something in the computer. But either way, this car is screwed up. I feel like I'm driving around a "death-trap"; I'm just thankful that the doors and windows are manual just in case the computer messes up again. At least I'll be able to get my doors open. Ha Ha! I am planning on buying a new (used) car next June, so I can relieve myself of this headache! I will definitely never purchase a Dodge Neon ever again, or another Dodge for that matter! Sorry Dodge Producers and Dealers : (. Oh and one more thing, has anyone else had the problem with "leaky doors"? I've had the sealant stuff around the doors checked and they always say that its fine, but I know it's not. Otherwise, whenever it rains, my back floorboards would not be soaking wet! Strange, I know! Well, anyway, thanks for allowing me to vent for a few minutes. I cannot wait to get rid of this nightmare. Please feel free to email me at htglitterbug88@aol.com if you would like to contact me.
