I also have a 99 Durango 5.9 and have had the same stalling problem. I replaced the ECM and the battery and it runs fine (without stalling) but then about 20 minutes into the drive it starts to struggle, but doesn't stall. For awhile we would just wiggle the connectors to the computer and that would reset it. I had the same experience stalling in an intersection and almost had a very bad accident. If anyone knows how we can get Dodge to recall this or get this problem fixed, please contact me - melatyou@msn.com. Also, the oil pressure is running high now and there is the ABS light on, and no speedometer. This is very frustrating. Anybody with any thoughts please email me, I would appreciate it!!! Thanks.

Another owner of a 1999 Durango. Same problem stalling at random intervals etc. I have replaced the PCM, Crank Sensor, Cam Sensor, TPS, and IAC Valve. I have also checked the wiring for shorts and made sure all of the connections are clean and tight, but the vehicle is essentially useless. I have read many posts about this problem (the local Dodge dealer is clueless) and many of the "posters" disappear after their problem is solved. While I certainly understand this, please throw us less fortunate folks a bone and tell us what you did to solve the problem. This may not be the answer to our individual situation, but it would certainly give us hope that the problems can be solved.

I also have a 99 Dodge Durango with a stalling problem, but it only happens when starting a cold engine. Once the engine is warmed up, it runs fine.

I've heard that there is a service bulletin from Dodge on this. I'm taking it to a Dodge dealer next week. Let's see if they can cure it.

I have a 00 Durango 4.7. I had a problem a few days ago of losing all power and no recharging of the battery. I replaced the alternator, and I was done. Truck started and the gauges went back to normal.

I was driving 2 day's later, and stopped for a bite to eat. When I went to start up, the truck turned over, but appears it is not getting gas to continue to start. It tries, but won't start. Not sure if the 2 are related, but I am in need of a quick possible solution. Any suggestions. Thanks.

For the last few weeks my 1999 Dodge Durango SLT 4x4 has been stalling. It will just shut off and after about five - ten minutes the car will start. The dealer says nothing shows up when they hook it up and everyone at the dealership is playing dumb.

99 Dodge Durango SLT 4x4 with 95000 miles, started stalling around 93000 miles. NO BUS appearing in the display. Will restart after 5 minutes sometimes, sometimes up to 30 minutes. Speed hasn't seemed to matter, dies at 5 mph or 55 mph, definitely not very safe. Mechanic says they can't find any problem with it, but seems from multiple internet threads about this same problem that the ECM needs replaced. My plan is to purchase an ECM from a company I found online that refurbishes and programs. Would love to know if anyone has found a real solution to this or if Dodge would take some kind of responsibility for it.

I also have a 99 Dodge Durango V8, I started having stalling problems 3 years ago when I had about 79K on it, took it to Dodge 3 or 4 times... changed battery cables, battery, and then just plain clueless, except they always could take my money! Same situation, just cuts out completely when driving and have to wait for it to cool down before it will start.

Anyway, the truck went into storage for three years while I was overseas, got it back last October and drove fine until... it started getting hot out, about a week ago. Read up on all the posts and most say it is either the Crankshaft Sensor that needs replaced or the PCM. I went with the crankshaft sensor as it was much cheaper! Guess what... died again yesterday...8 months pregnant stuck in the middle of traffic!! It was REAL fun! Also has Nobus on odometer when trying to turn it over again.

Anyway...long story... kinda short... It seems to be bad only when it is hot out... anyone else notice that??

So now... I have to take it into Dodge, and I refuse to pay for another diagnostics as it never turns up anything...BUT, there is more than one PCM in this truck, so maybe a guessing game on which one to fix. Looks like $900.00 here in Colorado to have fixed, add on the 187.00 for the crankshaft sensor..JEESH! All the posts online, you would think Dodge would recall this...HELLO!!! DANGEROUS!~

Hi, My Name is Debbie and I am having the same problem over and over, so far I have spent over $300.00 on this problem. I have a 2003 Dodge Duran-go 4.7, the check engine light keeps coming on so I have had the purge line replaced and have bought numerous gas caps, the computer keeps showing the gas cap fails, I drive it about a 100 miles and have to replace the gas cap again, is some one out there have an answer to this.

I have just purchased a 1999 Dodge Durango SLT plus with 98,000 miles on it for $5000. It is replacing my 1989 Dodge Ramcharger with 261,000 miles on it. My Ramcharger had the same stalling problem three times. The first time my mechanic found that the distributer pickup was shot. The second time (3 years later) it started doing it again. I told him to just replace the distributor pickup again. No more stalling. Here it is 5 years later and it's stalling again. At the same time the exhaust pipe split and the the front end is going (after 261,000 miles, she doesn't owe me a dime). Being that the Ramcharger has pretty much the same 2 V-8's that the Durango has, I'm thinking it might be the same problem.

I am the owner of a 1999 5.9 Durango and am experiencing stallings. It is at a local garage and his guess that it is the computer. He wants to buy it for $1500 and I am almost considering it after reading all these posts. Previous issues included a new tranny at 65k, new water pump at 80k. I am sad.

I would have the mechanic check for vacum in lower crank case. The lower part of the intake has a gasket that ruptures and causes vacum leakage and will drive the computer crazy. Very common problem. I have replaced at least 10 of these in the past 3 years. Another area that should be checked is fuel pump pressure... hope this helps. Just purchased a 99 durango last weekend..

Steve.

I have a '99 Durango with the 5.9. I bought it used, and it didn't come with any remotes for the door locks, and alarm system. No big deal, but after the alarm went of at the mall, and I couldn;t find out how to disarm it, I went to the local dealer, and bought a couple of remotes, and had the dealer activate them. Shortly after that the car started just dying, no pattern except that when it would happen the gas gauge showed empty. I have replaced the fuel pump, and the distributor pickup coil. My mechanic is guessing that it's the computer, the aftermarket extended warranty say's that is not covered under power train. But they covered the fuel pump. Anyone have any ideas on this?

We have a 1999 Durango. We bought it used 3 years ago and love it! Until it started stalling and the check engine light comes on at random.

We have replaced the spark plugs, distributor cap, plug wires, starter, alternator, at suggestions made by mechanics and family members that have had similar problems. Each time after we replace one of these the light will be off for several days. We have taken it to several different mechanics and had diagnostics run. A few of them had an idea, but some of them were clueless.

This is getting really expensive and we would like to get rid of it. This vehicle is used to haul my kids around and it is scary!

I am astounded to see how many of us Durango owners are having the same problem and Dodge does not want to do anything about it!

Can anyone give us any solutions or help!

K.Olmos.

I just had my 2000 durango serviced for 'stalling' It rolled out of my driveway and would turn over, but not catch.

Did the computer check and found it to be a engine relay

which I believe is like a fuse. I replaced one the previous year that didn't have anything to do with stalling.

They are $20-$30.

I'm the original owner of a 99 Durango SLT 4x4 5.9L, with 75K miles. Had the tranny replaced at 55K miles, A/C blower quit working about 65K miles, radiator replaced at 70K, and now I've been having the 'No bus' stalling problem for the last 2 months. The garage said it was some kind of starter motor valve, and replaced it for $200+. Two days later still had the stalling problem with 'No bus', would start after sitting for 10-15 minutes. Some times wiggling the wires to the computer works, some times not. How bad does it have to get before Dodge owns up to the problem???
