I have an '02 Trailblazer LTZ with 53000 miles and has the same issue. It would always be loud until 1/2 mile down the road and then it would go away. Well, today the loud noise did not go away and the Service Engine Soon light came on. I guess my next step is to get a diagnostic. I agree, this definitely should be a recall, especially from all the posts on the internet regarding this same issue.

2003 Envoy XL. Getting the Fan Clutch changed today only 41,000 miles. This sounds like it should be a recall.

Fan Clutch 2002 trail blazer, fault code: PO495 Cooling fan speed High. (service engine soon light on) loud noise due to fan clutch stuck. computer prob or clutch prob? Have heard many complaints about this and many fixes. Best is: new gm part # for fan clutch = 15293048 and computer needs to have updated software. Is this the only fix?

I just bought an 03 Trailblazer. I've owned it for 3 days, and suddenly, the cooling fan has decided to not shut off, like everyone else's. Like all the other comments, it creates a loud blowing sound that doesn't go away. I paid a pretty penny for this vehicle, and to have to repair it 3 days later is ridiculous. I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow. Based upon all the complaints I've heard on this website and others, this problem should be a GM recall. I have always had good luck with GM, but I am thoroughly disappointed in GM for not accepting responsibility for this problem.

I'll be getting my truck back from the mechanic today, problem: Fan Clutch. I had no warning leading up to the failing fan clutch. I can say when it goes, causes car to lose the ability to accelerate. Same issues, extended warranty ran out at 75K and fan went at 79K. Check engine light came on. Took it to dealer to have it fixed: estimate $821 and they weren't sure what was wrong only guessing, a second estimate and replaced fan clutch, car is running like new for $482. Mechanic called GM regarding part, their response: we are aware there is a problem, however at this time we are not issuing a recall. Nice GM!

Me too... 2002 trailblazer... 62,0000 miles... clutch fan problem I have noticed since I bought it finally won't go away... loud like a jet engine and no RPMs above 2000... $600 to make it go away... that's crazy... should be a recall.

I have an 02 Trailblazer with 82000 miles. I've been getting the roaring sound for the last 20,000 miles and the transmission felt like it was slipping. Lasted for couple of blocks. Saturday when pulling of the interstate I notice the problem and it hasn't gone away. Now I'm told the transmission is bad and that the error code for the fan clutch is present. Seems like way too many people are having problems.

My 2002 Envoy's service engine light just went on (for the first time). Have about 40k miles on it. If its the fan clutch, this will be the second or third one replaced. I've lost count. The last time at the dealer I had a pulley noise that wouldn't go away. Dealer replaced the idler pulley. The noise came back the next day. Then he replaced the a/c compressor. During the road test the new compressor apparently blew the alternator... so that was replaced. Envoy sounds fine. Thank god we got the ext. serv. contract! What next?

I have a 2002 Trailblazer at 40,000 miles the Fan clutch went bad had it replaced to the tune of nearly 900 dollars. Iam at 63,000 miles and it has the same problem. Love the truck, but VERY disappointed in Chevy for not calling a recall.

I have a 2002 Trailblazer with 44,000 miles and the fan clutch has quit working. The vehicle is less than five years old, but the warranty ran out. Dealership would not make any attempts to help with this problem except to charge $582.00 to fix it. I advised the dealership that my next vehicle will be Japanese. They have better service and product support!

Some glad I found this post. I am about to buy a 2002 EXT LT loaded with leather dvd etc. I will have to make sure it has already been replaced.

Same problem here.driving down the street and all a sudden sounded like a jet engine in the front of the hood kicked on, so I'm replacing the fan clutch tomarrow. I hope its not any harder to replace than my old 95 blazer "that was easy". I bought my 2002 trailblazer "as is", so no warranty for me, but it seems to me you get nowhere with the dealerships so ill do it myself... wish me luck.

2002 Trailblazer, fan clutch went out at 42000 miles. Researched the price of a new one and found it at about $575, Seems that Chevy redesigned in 2002 to put the $20.00 switch into the clutch assembly to keep the replacement price up. I have been a GM Man since I was 16 years old for 32 years. I will trade this in for a Toyota. This will be my last GM ever.

My wife's 2002 Trailblazer just developed the fan problem we all seem to have the part is $344 at the dealer, GM should definitely recall this part, this is my last GM product...

I have had nothing but problems with my 2002 Trail Blazer. It sounds as if I have a jet engine under my hood. It runs as if I have a mouse chasing a piece of cheese. It will cost me $450.00 in the end. Fan clutch!!!
