2001 Chevrolet Cavalier base coupe review from North America

She bought the car used with a minor crack in the front bumper, but the Bra covers it up so it's no problem.

The piece of plastic directly on the inside of the windshield on top of the dash is cracked.

The fuel gauge is not reliable after it hits below 1/4 tank

cigarette lighter port is shorted out.

gear shifting can be a little difficult

When my mom bought this car after owning a '87 Pontiac Fiero GT and a '90 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT with a turbocharged engine and all that, I thought this would be a horrible car.

Now that I got my license and drive her car regularly, I see its not bad at all. it's a manual, which makes it 10 times more fun to drive. it handles surprisingly well and the steering is pretty direct. the gear shifter lies in the perfect spot. even though 115hp isn't a lot, I can still get it to burn out starting out in 2nd gear. and that just amazes me, being a cavalier and all.

The looks of the car aren't bad at all. the taillights are simple, the headlights are stylish, and the black bra on the white paint compliments the "rip" stickers along the side of the car. there's no dents, scratches, or rust yet.

Besides the gas gauge, theres no reliability issues with the car. it's a pretty good car. and if something does happen, chevy cavalier parts can't be TOO expensive.

The only complaints that I can come up with, is sometimes it takes a while to get it into gear when down shifting, or just plain shifting actually. and with the air conditioner on, it sucks A lot of power from the car, A lot. the first time I had the a/c on, and I went to pull out from a stop light, I almost stalled it because of the difference in power.
