2000 Dodge Neon review from North America
"Looks are deceiving"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The steering column has squealed since the day I purchased the car. No one has been able to figure it out.
The car itself sounds like a wind-up car. The engine is racy and loud.
The air conditioning stopped working after one year (only one summer of use). The dealership and Dodge refused to service it because I had just gone over my warranty. Numerous repair shops have been unable to figure out the problem.
I have had to have the brakes fixed and rotors filed numerous times. The brakes still squeal every day, rain or shine.
I had a tire blow only three months after buying the car.
At 55,000 miles I am beginning to experience oil leakage. I keep running out of oil, but I cannot find any puddles. The oil light has never come on to alert me that I am out of oil. I am going to have it checked. Surprise, it is probably my head gasket!
Overall, it is a cute car, but that is all the credit that I will give them. The dealership and the company have been horrible. I believe that they are fully aware of the problems and that they are not standing behind their product. They are robbing us blindly. I used to believe in buying American, but so far, I haven't had anything good to go on.
General comments?
Dodge is a horrible company made up of liars and thieves. Their dealers are just as lousy. They are causing the American car industry to look really bad. I think they owe all of us Neon owners some free maintenence work and an apology. They should at least confess that there is a manufacturer's defect and it should be corrected. Until then, they should stop selling these cars and we should all stop buying them.
I will NEVER buy another Dodge!
