1998 Chevrolet Malibu review from North America

I used to enjoy my Malibu. I should have seen the foreshadowing the day the ABS light flashed for the first time.

I am the original car owner of my 98 Malibu. The current mileage is a little more than 44,000. I have had this rattling sound for about the last 20,000 miles. Each time I bring it to the dealership, they tell me that there is nothing wrong with the car. "It must just be you. We don't hear anything." If my car just rattled, I could live with it.

Getting back to the ABS light. I went to the ever-popular dealership & they gladly changed my brake pads, shoes, and rotors. Did the ABS light stop? No.

Now I have a check engine light & ABS light that randomly flash. After having the brakes, tires, battery, & a few other parts changed, I thought the car was in working condition. I was wrong.

The car will go to the shop again this week. You know, what bugs me the most isn't just that the car isn't running properly, it's that the rattling sound reminds you that the car isn't running properly.

Seriously, I've paid a little over 20,000US dollars for this car. My family & I have routinely purchased GM and/or Chevrolet vehicles for the last 30 years. This will be my last Chevy for a while. I think it's time to try another manufacturer.

Any suggestions?

The car was great for the first 2 years. Then the problems began & have continued for the last 3 years.

Any suggestions on a different manufacturer & model around the 20,000US dollar range?
