2001 Renault Clio 172 Sport review from UK and Ireland
"Rapid motor, pity about the aux belt"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Broken cat.
General comments?
I got my clio in 2004 and intended to keep it for a few years, due to the performance, and comfort of the car, mine had no rattles what other people have described, and the only problem it has was a broken cat, which I had to take back to the garage I bought the car from 3 times before they managed to supply and fit me a new cat. The interior of the car was lovely half leather, cd changer underneath the drivers seat, air con and various other goodies.
I had no problem seeing of the vts boys, and no matter what any of them say, a standard vts against a standard 172, the 172 will win every time and the vts driver would have to be on it in ever gear to even keep close. I even kept up with a type r down the a1.
The reason I got rid of the car was half paranoia due to the fact, I had heard if the aux belt snapped there was a chance the timing belt could snap and also take out the engine, so this ment if the air con, water pump, power steering decided to pack in it could take the engine along with it, and as I had no warranty on the car I decided it was best to get rid of the car, it's a shame Renault designed the car this way, otherwise it would be a unbeatable hot hatch.
Michael.
