2002 Buick Rendezvous CXL 3.4 from North America

Faults:

I just bought the rendezvous and 5 days later it wouldn't start; the battery had died.

After I get it back to the dealer to replace the battery, I start it up and notice my fuel gauge says it's empty, the Tach doesn't work and the electronic compass doesn't work. Apparently, there was a faulty module.

General Comments:

I loved the Rendezvous CXL as soon as I saw it. Unfortunately like everyone else the problems are too much. Luckily there is a 7 day no hassle return policy. I think I'll be taking advantage of it tomorrow.

2002 Buick Rendezvous CX 3.4 from North America

Summary:

Good vehicle with a few flaws

Faults:

I had to have the air conditioning fixed due to upper vents not blowing out enough air, which still does not work properly. The wheel bearings had to be replaced for $900...Buick just sent me a letter that it will reimburse me for that cost. Thirdly, my rear windshield wiper does not apply enough pressure to touch the glass.

General Comments:

The Rendezvous is very spacious, comfortable, and gets reasonable gas mileage. Unfortunately, there seems to be widespread problems with the A/C and wheel bearings. Also, the design of the rear wiper is flawed.

2002 Buick Rendezvous CXL 3.4 Liter from North America

Summary:

It's a bad vehicle because something goes wrong after you get the car is fixed

Faults:

The radio would stay on after the car was turned off. I would have to reset the computer in order for it to go away at approx 19,000 miles. Took it to the dealer, they fixed it, but issue came back a couple of hundred miles. It fixed it self when the computer was replaced.

The air conditioner went bad at approx 23,000 miles.

The computer went bad at approx 50,000 miles.

The intake manifold gasket went bad at approx 50,000.

The rear view mirror came off at approx 55,000 miles.

The key cylinder broke at approx 55,000 miles.

Now at 57,500 miles, I hear a hum coming from the engine compartment and it gets worse the faster I go and when I turn to the right. Will have it checked out next weekend and find out whats going on.

General Comments:

I'm mostly thinking of trading in the car. I never had so many problems with a car before I bought this one. I will do my part in reporting it to the NHTSA, and hopefully everybody else does the same thing.

I take this car to the dealer for its periodic maintenance and treat it like if it was a baby. This car is mostly driven by my wife and she treats it the same. I had a Pontiac grand am and treated it worse than the Buick and I only spent money on the water pump and battery. I traded in that car at 111,500 miles on it for this car and it ran perfectly.

A week after I reported this incident to the NHTSA and requested them to check out this website, Buick decided to send me a warranty to cover my front wheel bearings. Hopefully you guys having these same issues should get a similar letter. The only problem with the warranty is that it is extended for 5 years or 60,000 miles from when the vehicle was manufactured for the 2002 models. The other thing is that I got rid of my rendezvous because I got tired from spending so much money in repairs. Now I have a Toyota, which is more dependable and reliable than American Cars. Good luck guys.

My 2002 3.4L Rendezvous went through two front wheel bearings in the first year, the hood corroded in the first year, I replaced the head gasket at 102K, just out of extended warrany, and now the lights, instrument panel, power windows and radio all flicker on and off when the key is in the "run" position, especialy when the temperature is above 70 degrees outside - so I'm guessing it is a body control module. If these are all recurring themes then this car sounds like a lemon.

We have a 2002 CXL and the transmission has been clunking for three years. The shop kept telling us there was nothing wrong. It is now in the shop with the transmission out with 32K. Hopefully they can find out what is clunking.
