2005 Chevrolet Equinox LS 3.4 from North America

Summary:

All around the car is a very good car; never left us on the side of the road

Faults:

1. The only real problem we have with the car is the seats stains real easy.

2. We are on our 2nd CD player.

3. When the back windows are down, we get a funny sound that hurts your ears, but that's fixed by opening your front windows just a little bit.

General Comments:

All around the family loves the car; plenty of leg room and my son is over 6 ft. tall like myself, and no problems with leg room. And on long distance trips, we love it; great gas mileage and the driver's seat is very comfortable.

There is plenty of luggage space. Most of the problems I have read on this site we have not had to deal with, but I do know that some cars are built good and some are not.

I work on cars, and I say if you have a car built on a Friday, you will have problems, and if it is built in the middle of the week, you will have a good car. Think about it; on Friday people want to get out of work fast, and in the middle of the week, people go with the flow.

Remember people, treat your car right and your car will treat you right. Always keep up on the upkeep of your car, and you will be fine for the most part. Sometimes things need to be replaced; that's just how things are.

2005 Chevrolet Equinox LT from North America

Summary:

I wish that I had bought something different.

Faults:

I have some similar issues.

1. The key is hard to turn in the ignition. I have to wiggle the key to get it to turn in the ignition.

2. There is an awful screeching/whistling noise that seems to come to life when the car is warmed up and above 30 miles an hour. The noise is not constant; sometimes the noise won't start unless I hit a pothole. I have been to a few mechanics and they cannot pinpoint the problem. I have been told it is the tensioner wheel, brakes, or wheel bearings.

3. The CD player has stopped working with my favorite CD stuck in it. The steering wheel controls for the radio and cruise work intermittently.

4. The front end makes noises at times, and there is a creak in the steering when steering to the left.

Out of all these ailments, the screeching noise is the most annoying.

General Comments:

In general, the car serves its purpose. In defense of the car, my job does require me to drive about 3,000 miles a month. There is a lot of wear and tear on the car.

The screeching to me sounds like your serpentine belts need replacing, it's nothing major and a fairly cheap fix. Hope I could be of some help...

2005 Chevrolet Equinox LS from North America

Summary:

Wears easily over time

Faults:

Key sticking in the ignition. I talked to the dealer; it seems this is common. It is from dirt build up on the key, and the way the ignition is made on this vehicle.

Loud noise under rear seat right after starting. I had it in 3 times for this in 2 different states. All 3 dealers told me the same thing. It is the fuel pump resetting and this is normal. It has caused no issues with driving or performance. I learned to ignore it.

Seats tend to stain if any wet item is on them. This is a problem that I cannot seem to fix. I don't cleaned the seats as I learned my lesson on that. It appears that the fabric is very cheap.

At times engine power is reduced and loud noise when trying to accelerate. The dealer had this documented 4 times before it went out of warranty. They are unable to duplicate the noise. It only happens in heavy rains and snow. They tell me it sounds like the AWD maybe getting close to overheating and is shutting down to protect it. I was told to keep the tires in good repair and in good tread, and the vehicle aligned. So far this has been working.

Front brakes are vibrating. The vehicle eats front brakes. The back brakes are drums and the front are disc brakes. My mechanic told me this isn't unusual for this vehicle, and the vibration is the rotors needing cut or replaced. I have grown accustomed to it.

Hesitates to start at times. Hot and cold. This is a new problem I cannot get it to duplicate for the dealer. I was told "off the record" that this has been popping up more and more on this vehicle. I simply wait a second and try again and hope it starts.

I have been having the same issues as most of you all have. I think a lot of these issue were addressed and corrected for the newer versions. It seems that this vehicle was built as cheap as possible.

General Comments:

The car has been through some pretty bad winters, and I still have it.

The car seems to be made very cheaply, as compared to the next level up in vehicle lineup.
