Cracking little car, mine has been modified to improve performance and handling so now I couldn't be happier.

1998 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

High performance - value for money

Faults:

Nothing gone wrong with the car, but the brakes have had to be replaced, as they felt a little spongy - seems much better now!

General Comments:

This car is 100% better than my old car, nothing but trouble with the Megane, an endless list of problems.

The VTR is an excellent car with just as many features needed! The car handles well, is very responsive & powerful too, it performs just as well on the motorway as on a drive around town - would recommend this car to anyone!

1998 Citroen Saxo West Coast 1.4i from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A good value starter car

Faults:

The rear suspension bushings failed after 1500 miles and the drivers footwell leaked.

Both of these were promptly resolved by the manufacturer.

General Comments:

The West Coast is a good car for two things, the chassis and the running costs. It is a nippy car, but having bought a 205 GTi I would say the West Coast is more a style over substance affair.

The interior is very bright, but is no where near as durable as those found in the VTR and VTS - the seats are also seriously uncomfortable due to the offset pedals on long distances.

With the deals Citroen pushed with it and now the Furio, it is a good starter car.

Performance is nothing great, it goes, it can go faster with a good driver, but it will never set the world alight. Those who claim a sub 10sec speed to 60 are dreaming, being a 1.4 it is also lacks torque and overtaking takes serious planning!

Mine was not that reliable, but I enjoyed owning it. It is just a shame the residuals are so poor.

1998 Citroen Saxo VTS 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Rocket powered shopping trolley

Faults:

Leaking sun roof.

Alarm started going off all the time.

Door mirror switches broke.

Heater in passenger mirror broke.

General Comments:

The handling of the VTS has got to be one of the strongest points of this car. The only car I've been in that matches it is my friend's BMW 3 Series Sport. The cornering speeds you can get up to are amazing. One word of warning, don't lift off in a bend or the back steps out of line. If this does happen though it is beautifully controlable (unlike my friend's BMW!).

Performance is very strong, second gear will see you to 60mph, I've unoffically timed the sprint to 60 at just 6.9 seconds. Realistically though you are looking at the early 7's. 5th gear is very low meaning that you can reach the max of 127mph very quickly but it also means that the car is noisy at motorway speeds.

The interior of my car is rank, nasty material. The latest models are much better.

It's not particularly economical, but of course it depends on how you drive it. Insurance is pretty bad, group 14. Age 25, living in the Southeast of England you are looking at £700 fully comp for 2000/2001.

Looks great though, girls love it!
