2001 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6i from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great performance - bad service

Faults:

Brakes didn`t work very well at first. Dealer told me - they were still bedding in (over the phone). A few weeks later the car got recalled from Citroen due to faults in the brake control system.

Front and rear, left hand side speaker cases rattled. When I took it to the dealer he said I was expecting too much for my money!!! He stopped the front one from rattling - rear still rattles.

Scratch on the hazard lights button.

Driver seat has developed a very bad squeak. I am going to have to brave the Citroen dealers again to see if they will fix it - or am I expecting too much for £9000??

General Comments:

Lots and lots of problems with dealers, in particular - Winchester UK dealership is absolutely terrible. I know other people with Saxos who have experienced the same level of service from here.

HOWEVER, The cars performance is absolutely superb, and is a dream to drive. Acceleration is amazing (if not deceleration), and the car handles beautifully.

If only Citroen could sort out their customer services at their dealerships, the fun with not be spoiled!

Contemplating buying a Saxo VTR myself. Visited Glasgow Citroen last week to pick up some info, and today to get a trade in price on my current Astra. The sales staff in this place are totally disinterested, kept me hanging on for ages even though there was only one other customer in the showroom, and to add insult to injury, offered me a crap deal. If their attitude is like that (on both visits) before I've even bought the car, I hate to think what their aftersales service is like.

Came home and phoned Manchester South Citroen. Talked over a few figures on the phone and got a much better level of service and a better deal (albeit over the phone). Reckon I'll probably drop into Citroen M'chester South on my next trip to the city and sign up then.

Glasgow Citroen - just wanted to let you know - you're CRAP!!!

2001 Citroen Saxo Furio 1.4i from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good car

Faults:

Window wiper burnt out.

General Comments:

Very nice car, small inside, but a good buy for anyone. The Furio has the same body as the VTR/VTS, just not as quick.

Choose the one with Ricochet interior, not as bright as the old one (Westcoast).

Good handling, average brakes, nice engine sound, all round good car.

True, the furio is the young lads fake VTS/VTR! The VT's have better shocks, brakes and fittings and are lots faster. And doesn't hold it's price as well.

2001 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Fantastic ride and performance

Faults:

On delivery there was a white mark on the radio surround which would not come off. The dealer replaced the surround at the 1000 mile checkup with no argument. Strange, with Fiat dealers I was used to fighting for everything!

Other than that I've had no problems.

General Comments:

I love this car, it looks great and goes great.

After driving my Cinquecento Sporting for 4 years this is heaven. I love the look on peoples faces when you just blast off!!

I also now have a VTR having previously owned a Cinquecento Sporting for 3 years.

I have almost covered 1000 miles and thus it is due for it's first service next week.

However, it is going to the garage with a few problems: -

1. The Airbag light remains permanently lit (I am presuming due to the wires beneath the seat?).

2. The brakes squeal fairly loudly at low speeds. The dealer informed me that was normal and that if they clean them it will only come back, but having checked the Web I think that they need the Calipers adjusting, or simply greasing... any help anyone?

3. The engine idle is sometimes erratic, but only when warm... has anyone else had this problem?

Other than the above, assuming the dealer can sort the problems out, I am sure that the car will deliver all it promises.

I can just feel the engine wanting to be driven harder...can't wait!
