1998 Dodge Ram Pickup SLT 5.2L from North America

Summary:

The Dodge Ram 1500 is a very tough truck

Faults:

Well I replaced the track bar as it was worn out around 57k. At the same time the tie rod was junk, replaced that too.

Not a big deal, but the transmission pan was rotting off, and what I really love is that I brought the truck in for an oil change, and they didn't even see the tranny pan was all wet; very wet from the rotting. Dodge service techs must be blind. I'm shocked because they usually are quick to point out things that need to be fixed.

General Comments:

I love this truck. I have really had no big problems with it yet.

Seeing that it has the imfamous crappy 46RE transmission, I'm expecting it to have problems in the future, but surprisingly it hasn't had any problems, as I serviced the tranny, put new fluid in and a new filter.

1998 Dodge Ram Pickup Laramie 5.9 from North America

Summary:

Biggest piece of junk I ever owned

Faults:

Bought my 98 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 in 05. Had 118000 on it. I've replaced Radiator, Hubs four times

Had front brakes/rotors installed 6 times, battery, u-joints in front tires, heater fan, heater switch, tie rods, busted shock at 140000, 2 sets plug wires, distributor cap, fuel pump (located in the tank...expensive). Track bar (located in suspension),rear diff leaks, truck uses 1 quart oil a week and it doesn't leak it, it BURNS it. Get 12 miles a gallon. Today I found out it needs a converter. Iam going to set this truck on fire and run it over a cliff, where Ill be waiting for it to come to a complete stop before I take an ax to it.

General Comments:

This truck has been a nightmare from every angle possible.

I call it the snow king because here in Indiana You need a good 4 wheel drive.

1998 Dodge Ram Pickup Laramie SLT 5.0 Magnum from North America

Summary:

This is a git-r-done truck, if you can't Dodge it, Ram it!

Faults:

Transmission shifts a little rough.

Seatbelts don't retract correctly - a small problem.

Clatters when running on regular unleaded, but tears up the road on mid-grade.

A little slack in the steering.

Rear end has a little whine too it.

Not bad for a truck with 142000 miles.

General Comments:

This is a great truck... I owned a 97 Chevy 1500 before, and this Ram 2500 makes it look bad all around. It is beefy strong and intelligently designed to be driver friendly. The 2500 suspension can take anything put on it and barely even squats. Dodge knocked a home run and created a truck that not only performs, but looks great... I have a grille guard and big tires, and believe me, my Dodge is the ram-bo of the road.

For a big truck, I have no complaints on the ride, overall steering and handling of my Ram.

Ford and Chevy just wished they had the assets my 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 Laramie SLT does.. keep dreaming guys.

1998 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 4x4 Sport Club Cab 5.9 (360) from North America

Summary:

This has been the best

Faults:

Water pump, front U-joints, thermostat, catalytic converter, & seat recline levers.

General Comments:

I live in KC MO area. I have taken this truck on two trips across country.

MO to NY (2400 mile round trip) - 10MPG with trailer.

MO to S. TX (1000 mile round trip) - 16MPG.

It has performed flawlessly. My wife had an Envoy that was not as comfortable. I do a tune up every spring, and an oil change every 3000 miles.

We live on a small farm north of Kansas City, so it does not get a pampered life. It has been run hard and over loaded. I've even pulled others bigger and smaller out of the sand at the beach in S. TX. A good set of tires, and it won't get stuck.

I have owned other Dodges, Fords, GMs, a Datsun, and a Subaru. No transmission problems.

1998 Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 SLT 5.0 from North America

Summary:

Overall my Dodge is a great truck and a joy to drive

Faults:

Performs poorly on regular unleaded gas.

Seatbelts don't retract correctly.

Oil pan leaks.

Seat on driver side wearing out.

Front end bushings wore out and making noise.

Steering has a lot of slack and play in it.

General Comments:

My truck is hefty and great to drive.

It seems to have plenty of power running on premium unleaded gas.

The seats are comfortable and there is plenty of room for the driver.

The instrument panel is well designed and easy to read.

Overall handling is good for a large truck.

The only problem I have with the makeup of the truck is the plastic headlamps that haze over after awhile.
