1998 Dodge Ram Pickup V8 from North America

Summary:

Great and reliable truck

Faults:

The engine started puffing out black smoke, and all I had to do was put a new air filter on it.

A few minor paint problems, not that big of a deal.

General Comments:

A good reliable truck. It is also very powerful.

A minor electronic problem with the brake light; it was an easy fix.

1998 Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 4x4 Laramie 8.0L V10 from North America

Summary:

If it got better mileage, I'd love it even more

Faults:

Front rotors were warped when bought, due to braking with a heavy trailer over a long time (neglected).

Rather the gas pig at 10-11 MPG city or highway.

General Comments:

I love my Ram. It's as reliable as the sunrise.

I have copious torque whenever I need it.

Four wheel drive engages effortlessly.

The engine is extremely smooth, silent and powerful for any condition.

The transmission shifts superbly.

The ride is better in this truck with a straight front axle than other trucks with IFS.

Ultra beefy box. I can go anywhere I desire, and tow almost anything.

1998 Dodge Ram Pickup SLT 318 from North America

Faults:

I bought this truck as a go to Lowes and pick up stuff.

On the way home, it shifted very bad. I noticed after driving a while the OD light went on and then the trans heat light. I stopped it and had it towed to a transmission shop. They told me to replace the transmission because there were a lot of miles on the truck. I had them put new transmission fluid and it now runs nice for around town.

I have been told that the speed sensor is probably the major problem. Does anyone else have any info on that?

General Comments:

I love the looks and the drive of this truck.

1998 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 5.2L, 318 CID from North America

Summary:

I have a good opinion of this vehicle

Cracked head at 140K.

Transmission pump leak at 158K.

Rear speed sensor at 178K.

Lumbar support seat motor failed (driver side) at 167K.

General Comments:

I have been generally happy.

This was a used vehicle with high mileage, and that being said, I think the repairs that have been done are to be expected.

The vehicle has good cab room and is comfortable to travel in.

1998 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 5.2 V8 from North America

Summary:

Beast

Faults:

Passengers window only goes down with the driver's switch, but goes up with the passengers switch.

Driver's mirror only goes to the right and down with the switch, passenger's works fine.

Axle bolts connecting to the hub are going bad.

When I stop on dirt or wet roads, my right rear tire locks up.

ABS and brake light come on randomly.

Seems to go through back tires a lot. LOL.

General Comments:

My truck has its issues but I'm not complaining, it hasn't left me stranded and it's got a decent amount of power for a 318.

I got the truck for 1700 dollars, and it was a good damn deal.

It has 228xxx thousand miles, but it drives like it's got 50,000 miles.

Basically, I love my truck and the only thing I would sell it for is a cummins turbo diesel.

1998 Dodge Ram Pickup SLT 5.2 V8 from North America

Summary:

The Cadillac Work-Horse of all pickups

Faults:

120,000 fuel pump went out (typical)

156,000 TPS went out, hit a ditch broke ball joints, along with tie rods and sway bar.

159,000 drive-shaft pinion crushed.

209,000 tape player quit playing.

237,000 doors started to rust.

289,000 windshield washer fluid tank got a leak.

310,000 axle joints were bad.

357,000 blown intake gasket.

370,000 timing chain teeth finally gave.

376,000 my air freshener quit freshening.

General Comments:

This truck is by far the best I have ever had.

It has been a farm truck all of its life, pulling well over its max capacity.

All the problems I had were easily fixed by myself.

Even though it's a 318, it still runs with the big boys and even sometimes does truck pulls.

This truck is driven every day, usually highway if not pasture.

It's all stock, and the problems are minimal and small.

It's the Q/C SLT, and rides a little rough, but it's a nice rough.

I keep the maintenance up, and it averages around 21 HWY and 15 CTY (did I mention it's a 4x4)

In all I'll never own a new one because these older ones in my professional opinion are the best, way better than the competition (trust me I've owned all the comp.) it out pulls and runs cooler than the F-150, it does everything better than the Chevy 1500 except speed, and it's tougher than the Titan and Tundra. Mines been in every tough situation imaginable, even been flipped over.

Oh and not to mention, this is one hell of a body style.
