Oil Changes every 3000 miles

Left front hub: 150,000 miles

Left front u-joint: 157,000 miles

Water Pump: 174,000 miles

Right front u-joint and turned rear drums: 177,000 miles.

Drivers seat torn on side.

General Comments:

I love this truck. It has the 5 speed, and the clutch is definitely worn. The rear end is starting to get some slop in it, with the little maintenance I do on it, and the miles I put on it, I am very impressed with the 5.2 and the whole truck. Could use a little more get up and go, but has no problem traveling with the big boys. Not a shimmy shake or anything right up to 90mph. Wish it had a tach, though..

1998 Dodge Ram Pickup Larime SLT 4x4 Club Cab 360 from North America

Summary:

Mexican Built Dodges Suck, and so do Dodge Dealers..

Faults:

Transmission 25+ times 10 time went out dealer mechanic.

Aluminum Alloy 5 spoke Rim snapped in half?

Can't count high enough! But AC Condenser failures, when they fix this then Heater core would be broken, They fix the heater core the AC would leak freon.

The last time I took it in they wanted to charge me $600.00 to fix heater core, so I cut ducting so I wouldn't have to disturb the AC condenor, and fixed it $80 cost of the aluminum heater core, Dodge uses super corroding copper or something it was all green and it was only a month old...

Real axle (Posi) Failure, said it was due to off roading and truck never seen off road conditions at the time...

Dana 44 front axle (this broke on the dirt path to go where the actual off road trail is.

Bad paint.

2 bad radios.

Tail gate would never stay closed.

ABS brakes never worked right... First it would never stop, now if you have to panic stop the brakes lock up. If ABS light comes on when I start I know I can stop... (which should mean there is something wrong) If the light is off Flip a coin, you might stop you might not..

Truck used to use a quart of oil every 2 weeks. Dealers said this was normal...

Then it got a quart a week... They still consider it normal... Engine never ran right, has tons of valve float, and intake manifold keeps coming loosing. If I tighten it oil consumtion goes almost away for like 2 weeks. Uses antifreeze too. But they are not mixing?

Plus it gets horrible gas mileage 7 miles to the gallon last week highway. I guess it's from all the normal oil consumption going on.

General Comments:

Has some of the best cup holders, in any vehicle... Not a good selling point unless you get 3500 model... And don't get the v-10 get diesel

Only real good comment I can give it.

Just make sure your not buying the Mexican built model.

They don't make a v10 diesel.

1998 Dodge Ram Pickup SLT 5.2 318ci from North America

Summary:

Great truck, at least mine is

Faults:

Replaced front brake pads, they started to squeal. When the mechanic replaced them, he said they still had 20% material, I replaced them anyway. Also replaced front rotors entirely, heard the O.E. rotors were bad to begin with. Also rear brakes had 25% material left. Left them alone.

General Comments:

This is one great truck, at least mine is. Maybe everyone should wait until these get 100,000 miles on them to purchase. That way you know if you're getting a lemon.

Seriously, I have owned several Dodge trucks, and think they make a good product.

The plenum problem can be fixed easily with a product from apsprecision.com

1998 Dodge Ram Pickup 5.9L from North America

Summary:

As good a truck as any on the road

Faults:

-A/C clutch failed.

-A/C evaporator failed.

-Ignition coil failed.

-Belt tensioner failed.

-Transmission failed.

General Comments:

I like this truck overall. It has decent acceleration for a truck this size, and plenty of torque for heavy loads and towing.

The truck is excellent in the snow. In 4wd mode it could probably drive through quicksand.

The brakes are very good, but wear quickly.

I have had some problems with the truck, I think that most of them are reasonable for a truck with this many miles on it, all except for the A/C evaporator, for which I can find no excuse except poor quality.

I'm the fourth owner of this truck, the original owner was a concrete company, which didn't treat it gently, I'm sure. I got a fairly good deal on the truck, though the repairs I've had to make have added up.
