1999 Ford Contour SE Sport from North America

Faults:

Just spent $4,000 fixing it, WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY!

Too many things to list.

General Comments:

It's small, I'd say good while it lasts, but all around a cheaply made car. I couldn't say it's worth it.

The $4,000 I just spent to fix it was a waste, because now I've got another $300.00 worth of things wrong with it!

1999 Ford Contour SE 2.5L V6 from North America

Summary:

Aggressive maintenance is key to make this car GREAT!

Faults:

Check engine light at 70,000 - cleaned EGR passages.

Alternator at 85,000 - Aftermarket.

Alternator at 85,200 - Aftermarket.

Alternator at 86,000 - Dealer replacement with Motorcraft.

Dealer 'forgot' to tighten the mounting bolts!!

Flawless since, then was rear-ended by a Honda.

General Comments:

Fantastic all-around car, but you must be aggressive with maintenance.

Differential in the manuals is great, but fragile.

Auto requires regular 4 quart drain/fill (twice yearly) and will last forever. Maintenance is key.

Comfortable, reasonably quick.

A few suspension goodies make handling EXCELLENT, so I raced it & did well.

1999 Ford Contour SE Not sure from North America

Summary:

It has lasted 8 and a half years, but it's time for a new one

Faults:

I have had my 1999 Ford Contour since 2000.

The dash board warps, the check engine light came on about two weeks ago.

The lights don't come on upon opening the door.

The windows work when they want. It seems as if there is some type of shortage.

I am ready to trade this car in.

1999 Ford Contour SE 2.0 VCT 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Eh.. some problems but awesome

Faults:

The only thing that I have really had a problem with my car is I bought it used with 97,000 miles on it, and had decent tires on it; within 4k miles I had a blowout... used dealership's fault, I got reimbursed... ended up replacing 2 front tires after only 5k miles; I had another blowout on the front driver side.. problem was alignment was screwed... the TOE was completely off... it was bad... almost 300 dollars later it was fixed.

My factory speakers blew after I put a CD player in it, so currently I have 2 Sony 4x6's and a 12 inch sub woofer in the trunk... it shakes... also added cold air intake...

General Comments:

Great, I really like it... handles really well, had it topped out to 110 mph so far... roomy... comfortable to drive...

1999 Ford Contour SE 2.5 V6 from North America

Faults:

Well, tell me folks, I hear that if the car won't go into reverse or overdrive that it could be the automatic transmission range selector, but I discovered that it was almost 2 quarts low in tranny fluid, so I topped it off with Bardhal transmission stop leak and no more problems. I still have the occasional balking at any speed, like the elctricals are freaking out, red battery light on, then it goes away as quickly as it occurred, battery and alternator test fine, and the electrical harness looks OK (did Ford upgrade that harness by 1999, I wonder), well the engine light is on but the car runs fine giving me 30 m.p.g. average with a lot of hwy driving from my 2.5 V6, I bought it for a song so it is my test commuter mule with no great confidence I'm driving it but considering letting it go to another buyer, buyer beware of quirks. I really like the design and size and performance, the AC works great, and the pick up is just fine too. Maybe I should have opted for the Toyota Camry 4 cyl. as my commuter, but hey any used car has its foibles, so we shall see, I'll probably just go find a good Ranger pickup truck, again.
