1999 Ford Contour LX 2.0L Zetec from North America

Summary:

Great!

Faults:

Inner tie rod need replacement at 53,000 miles.

Flex pipe rusted out and needed replacement at 55,000 miles.

Nothing else except for normal maintenance.

General Comments:

Great car. For about $2500 you can make it handle great. Very slow though, does about a 18 second quarter mile. Basically, as a student driving 500 miles between home and college, it is great, gets good gas mileage (around 32 highway), and is very reliable, but only if you take care of it and keep it happy.

1999 Ford Contour SE Sport 2.5 - V6 Duratec from North America

Summary:

Over all, the car has been good to me and at 25 mpg, was worth every penny spent

Faults:

Dash board warped at 30,000 miles, but Ford fixed for free.

A/C switch resistor failed at 38,500 miles, allowing the A/C to only work on high. $100.00 fix.

Check engine light has come on a few times, but I could never figure out what for.

Interior fades rather quickly. Within a couple of years only.

Pin stripping faded and cracked within 3 years.

Headlight lenses worn bad by the sun. Really cheap plastic, but easy to fix with 1200 grit sand paper, plastic polish and a high speed buffing wheel.

Rear left power window regulator broke at 40,000 miles. fixed myself for only $40.00.

General Comments:

2.5 liter V-6 Duratec engine is very strong at 170 horse power.

Automatic transmission slow at down shifting, but when it engages, hold on!

Car handles as good as many high end sports cars. Not bad for a sedan.

The interior noise is kinda bad for a sedan, you hear the road through the tires way too much.

Poor headlight performance compared to other vehicles of the same class.

Only 25 MPG outta that thing?! I've got a '95 Neon that gets 38 highway MPG on a regular basis. And they both have roughly the same reliability - low reliability that is.

Had an '02 Nissan Maxima with a 253 HP V6 that got 30 MPG. Sorry, but I still think you could get better.

1999 Ford Contour from North America

Summary:

More of a hassle then it's worth

Faults:

When we first purchased the car from a used car dealer, I could not open the trunk or the trunk by key. I had to open the doors by first unlocking the passenger's side and crawl through to unlock the driver's side door. to unlock the trunk I still to this day need to used the lever inside the car.

I cannot let the gas meter get below half tank. When stopping the car (at a red light on stop sign), upon trying to get going again, the car stalls out and turns off. This has caused several instances where I was placed in dangerous situations. Due to the fact that the car was off and as I was trying to get it started again, the car following me did not realize that the car had in fact stalled.

The dashboard is peeling up, and now is starting to restrict my view of the road.

Very noisy at times.

The check engine light keeps turning on. After trying many different solutions, we still cannot figure out what is causing some of the internal problems in the car.

General Comments:

The seats are very comfortable.

Starts up quick.

The heat and A/C have both worked very well every time I've used them.

Not good for very long trips, but good to get you to where you need to go in a close proximity.

1999 Ford Contour SE 2.0 DOHC from North America

Summary:

A total heap

Faults:

Had to replace the throttle body twice since I purchased the car.

Had to replace a wheel bearing at 70,500 miles.

Power steering went out at 71,380 miles.

Radio got hot and melted part of the dash.

General Comments:

This car gave me a lot of troubles since day one. The very first time I drove the car I ran out of gas when it read I had half a tank.

The power steering went out and it almost killed me.

My back left wheel came off because of bad bearing (s).

Over all this car has been a nightmare and I will never buy another ford as long as I live.
