Gee where should I start?
Well when I first got the car, not yet paid for:
The starter (not covered by warranty).
The engine (covered by warranty).
The transmission (not covered by warranty).
The water pump (not covered).
The fuel pump (not covered).
The tie rods (not covered).
Front and rear brakes (not covered).
It's a piece of junk. No room at all. A car not meant for anyone over 4 feet tall (I'm 5'8 1/2). My Mother is 5'4 and she had a problem with her knees.
Whenever I ran the A/C, it just dragged. The little 2.0 4 cylinder engine had no power at all.
No power windows locks or anything special like that.
Ice or snow was a death trap.
Highway was out of the question, for it took forever to get to 60MPH.
I have driven a Geo that ran better than the Escort.
The MPG (miles per gallon); I have seen better in my 3.8 V6 van.
And not to mention the fact that my starter went out (dealership did fix), followed by my engine, transmission, water pump, fuel pump, tie rods (because of transmission), front and rear brakes.
Did you actually expect to still have warranty coverage on a car that was seven years old and had 110K miles on it when you bought it?
I'm 6'2" and have no problems with legroom or headroom.
Tie rods do not fail because of transmission. They fail when they're worn out, which is expected at that mileage.
I have a 1998 Ford Escort. I am 6' tall, and I have absolutely no problem with room. I also between 32-35mpg on the backroads. I have seen as high as 40-41 on the highway. Everybody keeps saying the 2.0l has no power. If you want to get power out of one, you need a 5spd. Also it sounds like the car was abused before you got it, or you do not know how to take care of one.
I was the proud owner of a 1999 Ford Escort. I bought my Escort with 115,000 miles and three years later I have 170,000 miles. In the past three years I have replaced tires, front brakes, and spark plugs one time. This was my first car and it has never left me stranded. I paid $1,600 for my Escort three years ago; I took it to a dealership today and got $2,000 for it. This car withstood the test of time and I would suggest anybody looking for an inexpensive, gas-saving, reliable vehicle to look into this one.
OK, I've got a 1999 Ford Escort. It's very good on gas, and that thing has power. It has a 5-speed manual in it and it has 178459 miles on it. Just do routine maintenance on it and it will last forever. I hear lots of bad stories on the automatic. You're better with the 5-speed manual, not the automatic.
