2001 Ford Focus Ghia Hatchback ESP 1.6 petrol from Turkey

Summary:

The word/ world automobile..

Faults:

- Lumbar support wheel mechanism of the driver's seat is broken. (User fault)

- Original tires need to be replaced.

-I've been told by the service that snow chains cannot be fitted to Focuses as they might possibly damage the ABS sensors on the brake calipers. I wonder if it's true-sounds a bit odd to me..

General Comments:

-I'm very pleased with it: It's spacious, engine is refined and operates smoothly and driving ability and handling is keen.

-The fascia is ergonomically designed and is definitely user-friendly.

-Velor upholstery is comfortable and the light gray color adds airiness.

-Audio system is generous in sound quality.

-Exterior design is a pleasure to look at.

- Although equipment level is satisfying, I wish it was equipped with front fog lamps too. My country's roads are full of topographical surface of any kind and it is a must to have fog lamps at night.

2001 Ford Focus Zetec ESP 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good performance with low insurance costs

Faults:

Nothing major has gone wrong as yet.

A couple of the switches were a bit tight, but after use they appear to be fine.

General Comments:

Modern shape handles well and very nippy.

My previous car was a Mondeo ST-200 which was a quick car, but this Focus has surprised me, add an open air filter and Superchip and the 0-60 times are in the sevens (tested with accelerometer). Hey that's better than my ST-200!!.

On top of this the handling is spot on, no more under-steer or over-steer the ESP (Electronic Stability Control) just corrects it.

Well I have been very impressed with the build quality too... no squeaks or rattles anywhere.

And all this for group 8 insurance, 25mpg.

One thing.. you do blend into the crowd on the road it does not fell like you have anything special, hey I can live with that.

2001 Ford Focus Zetec 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great fun to drive

Faults:

As with many Focuses (or is it Foci) there has been a problem with stalling at slow speed, this has been looked at by the dealer, but as the problem is expensive to fix they have just tweaked the engine a tad. It now stalls approximately once a month as apposed to the once or twice a week before the 'fix'.

Front right heater vent does not work, dealer unable to fix!

General Comments:

Although under powered at 1.4 it is adequate the new 1.6 is much better.

This car has the best road holding in any car of its class, an absolute joy to drive, fun, exciting, comfortable.

Also a bit of a head turner in the 3 door which is by far the best looking model, alloys are nice, interior looks great.

Boot space is adequate, seating also OK, regularly carry 4 adults for long distances with no complaints.

2001 Ford Focus Zetec Collection 1.8 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Much better than you can imagine

Faults:

I have had the car for nearly a year and so far I have had no problems.

General Comments:

This is excellent value for money. It's sporty, comfortable, a superb drive and very economical to run.

I also have access to a BMW 328 and I actually prefer the drive of the Focus. Everything feels right.

The 1.8 L engine is top class. Provides power when needed, but not over the top.

This is a drivers car.

Just put a PiperCross induction kit on my Focus Collection 1.8i and now it roars!

Upgraded tyres to 205/50 15's. Now handles like it's supposed to. The Pirelli P6000's that were on from new were dreadful.

2001 Ford Focus SE Sport 2.0-Liter 16v Zetec 4-cylinder from North America

Summary:

Fun on a budget

Faults:

The horn quit working for some reason, but the dealer quickly repaired it under warranty. No complaints about the timely repair on that issue.

But there is also a nasty belt squeal that the dealer refuses to repair.

Seems like a typical Ford dealer service department.

General Comments:

The Focus is a European car and it drives like one, with excellent handling, sharp steering, responsive brakes and a smooth, yet nicely-controlled ride.

Interior quality isn't any better or worse than the small sedan norm, and my car has excellent panel fits. This car has most options: Zetec engine, Sport package (fog lights, spoiler, leather steering wheel, tachometer, etc.), anti-lock brakes and more. Everything works great and everything looks great.

I guess my only real complaint is the road noise. Some more insulation could have made a good car even better.
