1995 Ford Probe SE from North America

Summary:

I owned a 89 probe and got rid of it to buy the 95 probe, but I now wish I would have kept the 89

Faults:

The paint started to crack and spider all over the place.

I had a major,$400 worth, electrical problem 3 months after my warranty expired.

My torque converter failed after 40,000 miles and my entire transmission failed after 85,000 miles.

The moon roof has leaked for the past 50,000 miles.

I can't open my moon roof because I had to tape it closed with electrical tape to stop the leaks.

The cylinders that hold open the hatchback lid failed after 40,000 miles.

The driver side controls for the power windows broke.

The weather stripping along the doors doesn't work anymore and now I can hear every noise outside of my car.

My seat belt doesn't close properly all of the time.

General Comments:

I've taken care of my car, but it hasn't taken care of me.

I wash it every 2 weeks and get the oil changed every 3,000 miles.

I've followed the owner's manual to a tee regarding service and upkeep. Every service listed for my car has been done within 50 miles of the recommended time as stated by the owner's manual.

I have to agree. I had a 95 Ford Probe SE and it did the same things that happened to his car. I have a 96 GT now and very happy with it! I think the faster Probes are better quality and better built.

1995 Ford Probe SE 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Not a high performance bargain

Faults:

This car started off great, it ran awesome and seemed to be off to a great start. Then I noticed that the car had problems in between second to third gear would began to rev. Then to set it all off I looked under the car when I got home to find the entire bottom part of the car covered in transmission fluid. It is also difficult to find parts from where I am at.

General Comments:

I have noticed that it seems to run fairly poorly compared to its brother the GT. I believe that if you were to get this car to think twice, I have had problems since the very beginning and I fear there will be more to come. One thing that has been good is places to put sub-woofers and other stereo stuff.

Hey bro, I have a 4cyl probe with more miles on it than yours. It runs like a top. Whomever had the car before your obviously didn't take very good care of it. Your transmission leak is probably due to a rear main seal leak. A rear main seal leak is easily repairable. Also, the performance of the probe is excellent, you are most likely experiencing power loss due to poor engine care. Did you take the vehicle to a mechanic before you purchased it? Anyway, I hope you have better luck with your car, they really are great rides.

Joel, what performance parts you runnin and where did you get them? How much you got in invest? I'm about to get a Probe for 1700 and it's a 4 cyl. I like the car; it's got 115,000 miles on it and it's a five speed. Where do you race? Maybe we could hook-up someday.

1995 Ford Probe GT 2.5L V6 from North America

Summary:

A serious sports car even if it is front wheel drive

Faults:

Spark plug wires went bad at 50,000 miles.

Replaced the front brake pads at 109,000 miles.

Replaced the power steering pump at 120,000.

Also replaced the oil pump at 120,000. It had a manufacturing defect that caused it to fail when bolts were removed and replaced during the power steering pump replacement. Since the vehicle had high mileage the warranty was long since over and I had to buy a new pump.

General Comments:

This is probably the best car I've ever owned.

Considering the fact that I was putting 30,000 miles per year on the car, it was very reliable and relatively inexpensive to own.

I autocrossed this car and I have to say that it handled better than any other front wheel drive car I've ever driven.
