1993 Ford Probe GT review from North America
"Incredible Road Handling Abilities. Really Sticks to the Road"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The O2 Sensor developed an error about 1 year in to the ownership. I heard of stories about replacing it. But I elected not to. It probably was not a good idea, but at the time I didn't know any better.
Steering wheels rattled like crazy when ever I reached the speed of 70mph and above. However, this was quickly corrected by doing a Wheel alignment. I had learned from my teacher in our physics class about road's vibration at certain speeds would create a certain wavelength that creates the vibration.
General comments?
While the car didn't have blow away speeds on straight away. It had incredible road hugging ability. I remember reading Motor Trend's review and touting it as "sticking to the road like burnt egg to frying pan".
I have never had another car that handles any where like the probe did. I think even it's cousin Mazada mx6 was inferior.
Most of the time when I raced, I was beaten on straight aways, but I have never lost during turns. Great fun car to have. The front wheel drive allows good manuverabilty in the snow too. But watch out for "fishtailing".
The car had incredible cargo room for a car it's size. As far as for passengers go. You should not carry any more than 2. 3 is OK, but 4 is too much.
Overall, it is a great car for a young person to drive. If I can do it again, I would buy another Probe GT.
