1995 Ford Taurus GL review from North America

What things have gone wrong with the car?
The brake wiring connecting the brake lights and allowing the car to shift gears, wouldn't allow me to do so.
I was stranded numerous times, where service was unavailable.
The car shifts very hard and violently from first to second, and then again from second to third.
The car has trouble making it up steep hills without a run at it.
Two tires had to be replaced at 100,000km.
Front brakes had to be changed at the same time.
General comments?
The car is fairly easy on gas, and generally gets me where I need to go. Though I would not get another Taurus from the same year, it hasn't been too bad. For a first car, I would say that it was a good learning experience.
