1986 Honda Accord DX review from North America
"A great, cheap car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I got the car, the brakes had to be replaced at about 220,000. Cost $269.41 from Honda for Rear Shoe Kit, Front Pad Set, and Front Rotors. Easy to do.
Major tune up at 220,870 - Dist Cap, Rotor, Spark plugs, filters, PCV valve. Cost $297.33. Had done by shop.
Water pump and timing had to be replaced at 223,523. Also, Front driver's side brake line blew out. Replaced both. Total Cost $748.73. Had done by shop.
At 223,032 the oil pan/gasket was replaced. Cost $206.02. Had done by shop.
Car has had intermittent carb. problems. I had vacuum lines scoped, no leaks. Suspect sticky choke. Usually runs fine if it is warmed up for a while.
The rear left upper ball joint is worn and squeaks really bad. Haven't replaced it yet, but soon will.
General comments?
It's been a good car. This car has more pickup than the LX models and will go much faster. I've gotten up to 120mph in it with no problems. I constantly find myself speeding with it. The paint is GREAT. It is still shiny and is not fading. Interior is pristine, couldn't ask for much better.
Gets good gas mileage, around 400-450 to the tank.
Overall, great car! Once everything is fixed it runs like a champ even nearing 250,000 on original engine.
