1992 Honda Accord LX from North America - Comments

14th Apr 2005, 07:25

What things have gone wrong with the car?

CV joints pop.

Ball joints broke @189,000 miles.

Needed gas tank (normal Vermont rust)

Needed brake work 2 times in 6 months.

Needed clutch (due to a kid taking my car without asking and blowing it... slipped all the time)

Oil leaks everywhere (just cuz its old)

General comments?

I have loved this car. It has been probably the most reliable car I've ever owned... and I'm only 19. I've owned 6 cars so far because I work on them adding aftermarket parts. The accord is so much better than the civic in my opinion. I don't know how they do it- Honda makes such a good rig.

I would definitely recommend this car to anyone who is young and needs a reliable first car. Go for it if you find a good deal. The only thing about Honda is that you have to be careful of rust. There can be little on the exterior, but watch for those rear strut towers... -they can have holes and rust spots.

I have never changed the timing belt since I've had it (at 168k miles). Never! Probably should though... but selling the car soon and buying a 1995 Dodge Neon that I know for fact is reliable.

Dodge is not a very good car. I had a dodge neon and the engine blew twice in 2 years and both engines where new and yet they still blew!!! Now I have accord and it runs great I would stay with the accord it will run better and last a lot longer.

My one owner 92 LX has 376,000 and going strong, 14 years as an interstate commuter, 150 miles round-trip.

Repairs/replacements include: 235K A/C compressor, 250K struts/shocks, 275K radiator, 300K both CV joints within 5K, battery every 4 years, 3 A/C temp know, 2 sets of pedal covers, first brake job at 350K, valve cover gasket 360K.

Current gripes include: Leaky clutch slave cylinder, trunk water leak, engine seeps some oil, but doesn't leave oil drips, muffler starting to make noise, cigarette lighter fell apart.

Still get 30+ MPG, cruise at 75+, burns no oil, chg oil/filter every 3K, Castrol 20w50, all belts and ignition every 90K, only Amoco, Chevron or BP gas, no fuel gripes, no accidents, over 100 rock chips in windshield.

Best car in the world, my other car is a 72 El Camino with 454 and 4.11 gears... can't afford to drive.
