1991 Honda Civic Si from North America

Summary:

My favorite car I have ever owned to date

Faults:

The rear rocker panels rusted out... had to do some body repair there, had the whole vehicle treated and other than this work... the body is still mint.

Had to replace the hatch back hydraulic lifters... cheap fix. Otherwise, as it stands now, just have to replace the CV boot (it's throwing oil) and redo the brakes.

General Comments:

It's time to sell... have bought a 3/4 ton diesel... REALLY hate to see it go, have enjoyed the car immensely. A timeless classic, reliable and solid. Still drives as quick and sporty as the day we bought it.

1991 Honda Civic DX 1.5 4 cylinder SOHC from North America

Summary:

A good first car

Faults:

I had the distributer cap and rotor and the ignition blow at about 181,000 miles. I got that repaired relatively cheap, $82 plus labor. That was the only time the car ever broke down on me in the middle of the road. After that I've had a couple of major services, and change the oil every 3,000 miles. The transmission shifts smoothly, although the clutch has started to squeak when pushed down to shift. My suspension has also started squeaking and bottoming out due to the control arm bushings needing replacement. I got a quote for $400 plus labor to fix them, so I didn't get that done.

General Comments:

The car handles very well at speed, but parking is sometimes tedious due to the lack of power steering on the DX model. My air condioner never worked and I never bothered to get it fixed due to the cost. The car accelerates to 40 rather quickly, but then tapers off after that. I have the manual transmission so I can hold the gear longer, but in the automatic it would be considerably slower. It is not good at all going up hills, I feel like I have to floor the gas in a low gear just to get up the hill.

1991 Honda Civic LX 1.5 from North America

Summary:

A very, but very reliable car!..

Faults:

So far the plastic radiator cracked and had to apply one of those permatex fiberglass and resin-catalyzer kit patch, and worked super!...No more water leaks!...

The main relay failed (behind the hand brake release), and got the original replacement from the dealer!...

Had to change the coil and the ignition module inside the distributor (main relay and ignition module are the main common problems in Hondas)!...

General Comments:

This car rides very smooth, kicks up quite fast (16 valves), and is very comfortable!...

A little luxury package in a very economic car!...

My brother has had two Hondas, and this is my first!...

I'm more than happy with it!...It's like brand new, and I expect to have it till the day will die!...

1991 Honda Civic 1.6i-vt 1.6 petrol from Greece

Summary:

A civic will never let you down, a vtec civic is better

Faults:

Left c. v joint (my fault, i didn't replace the worn out c. v boot),rear suspension bushings started to rattle recently (common problem),vtec cam rattle (common in first gen b16a motors, no need to fix, it just sounds weird),front rotors warped (due too bad designing, the brakes haven't got sufficient cooling),driver seat started to wear, and the engine consumes some oil when over 7000 rpm (normal for a vtec with some years of abusive use).

General Comments:

Extremely reliable, this car is driven to the limit (rev limit) all the time, sometimes I forget to service it, no problems at all. The engine is just fantastic the gearbox is one of the fastest you ll ever touch in a mass production car, and its really fast. Not roomy for the rear passengers, well spec-d, but it could use power locks, and ABS. The handling was just OK from the factory, despite the double wishbone sophisticated suspension, and got much better with aftermarket strut bar, shocks and springs. The factory brakes are fine in terms of performance, but when they overheat, the rotors can easily warp, so buy yourself a good quality front rotor pair. I will never sell this car, cause there is nothing else to replace it now.

Just a quick note, the noise from the engine is most likely to be the lost motion assemblies (LMA's).

Mine was doing this, and I had hell of a job finding out what it was, as no garages knew.

They are simple to replace and cost around £40 ukp each (I needed 3)

It won't matter if you don't replace them, it's just not very nice to drive a Honda that sounds like a Ford!

Honda's are tough as nails, but not like a ford 5.0 engine impossible to make tap or burn oil and civics burn oil when they are new I think ha ha, so long fellas.
