1991 Honda CRX VTEC review from UK and Ireland

Little nipples so to speak that enable you to lower the back seats down have snapped (not a major problem).

Boot struts have collapsed (common fault on CRX as 2 little struts have to hold up a very heavy boot lid!).

Expensive to repair a wing that was damaged.

Very expensive after market parts from Honda, as finding non genuine after market parts is near impossible.

Sump plug & gasket have started to go again (not a major problem though).

Amazing car, very, very quick. It handles extremely well and the fuel economy is just great. 40MPG combined, I have managed to get 282 miles from £25 worth of petrol!

150BHP from a 1.6 engine is an achievement as standard cars go, take the CAT off and your looking at 160BHP (this should not affect your fuel economy). The noise from the engine as it enters the VTEC area 5,500 RPM is out of this world. Fit a Japanese induction kit to this and you will not regret it.

As for reliability the car can do no wrong. Once again Honda have managed to provide a bomb proof (in a manner of speaking) engine and gear box.

My CRX VTEC has covered 117K miles now and still goes strong. Pull up to the lights at most modern day "boy racers" won't stand a chance!

Make sure you keep on top of oil changes (every 6K miles, as VTEC works off oil pressure!) and make sure you use the VTEC at least once a week to keep the special cams and valves operational and lubed.

Overall, one of the best cars I have ever driven, practically a 2 seater (2+2) you will be hard pushed to fit any more than 2 adults in this car at all, but loads of space in the boot and even more when the back seats are down!
