2001 Hyundai Elantra GT turbo from North America

Summary:

This car saved my life!

Faults:

This car seriously saved my life, as well as two of my friends. We had a horrible car accident on the highway and this car held it's own. I recommend this car to anyone.

This car went through a lot... the roads were icy and snow covered, a truck was coming off a ramp and I got in the left lane to let him merge in the right and the left lane was a sheet of ice from not being used.

The spun around numerous times, hit an embankment rolled the car 3 times, and walked away without a scratch. The car was barely dented and the only window shattered was the back hatch part. If we were in any other car such as: a civic, accord, matrix, or sun fire; I'm not so sure I would be here right now.

I did have problems with the malfunctioning light coming on. But I soon realized that it came on when the gas cap was not screwed on tight enough. It was just a safety precaution.

General Comments:

This was the perfect car for me. I am a freshmen in college and I paid $10,000 for this car, and it was worth every penny. It was so spacious and sturdy.

I owe my life to this car, as well as the man who sold it to me. If you're even considering this car... get it! You will not be disappointed, plus with the turbo you will be recognized from miles away! It's the greatest!

The Hyundai Elantra does not (and never has) come with a turbo from the factory, so I was wondering - did you add an aftermarket turbo? Or was the turbo added by a previous owner?

2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS 2.0liter from North America

Summary:

A nice, reliable car for an affordable price.

Faults:

The front wheel bearing was replaced under warranty at 50,000 miles. There is a musty smell from the air conditioning and heating system. The dash is starting to make a vibrating noise. The steering wheel vibrates at speeds over 60 mph.

General Comments:

The car has a lot of power for a 4 cylinder. The interior is spacious for a small car. The air conditioning and heater system work great except for the musty smell that I can't get out. I would like to know if anyone else has this probleme with the ventilation system?

I own a 2001 Elantra and I have the same problem with that musty smell. Furthermore the windows fog up with some sort of moldy looking stuff. Have you had any further problems with your car. I have had quite a few.

I have a 2003 Sonata with the same bad musty smell. The dealer can't seem to fix it. What is it???

I have a 2001 Elantra GT. I also had the musty smell in the AC. This problem is not uncommon for a lot of cars (depending on the humidity where you live). I took a can of Lysol and turn-on the AC with the outside vents open. With the AC fan set on high hold the Lysol can next to the outside vents and spray in for 10 seconds at a time. This should get rid of the mold in the AC. Another way to avoid the moldy smell is to run the heater thru the vents for a few minutes AFTER using the AC. That will burn the mold out.

I have the same musty smell in my 2001 Elantra. It seems to smell more when you have the fresh air vent on. I use clothes dryer softening sheets in the interior. Other than that it has been a great car. I just upgraded to 15x6.5" alloy wheels & also added a dual air horn .Have replaced the stock air cleaner with a K&N .Plan on putting headers on next for more HP.
