2000 Jeep Cherokee Grand Limited 4.6 V/8 from North America

Faults:

Many thanks to those who figured out the stoplight/taillight problem. I have no idea how long ours were defective.

I used a length of solder under the single contact on each side, R & L. I will test this for a while. It seems that one could build a wedge to go between the contact ring and the one below it, to get back to the original dimension.

I replaced the front rotors with an aftermarket, SATISFIED, and they have worked well for the past 30,000 miles. Mechanic said one problem was that the front lugs may have been overtightened. Did Bilstein shocks. Very good.

Same problem with LF window, Master switch. Rear pinion seal went out. Front differential seal was also replaced. Otherwise, a good machine.

Summary:

Decent car, but stupid problems, especially because Jeep does not want to own up to and fix it

Faults:

My door and trunk locks (motor) have failed and makes a horrific sound. The trunk has no other way to lock/unlock.

I've replaced my left tail light over 10 times already!

General Comments:

HELLO,

I have replaced my door motor locks, ONLY to have the same problems reoccur. Now I HAVE NO ACCESS TO MY TRUNK FROM THE OUTSIDE. How could Jeep make a car that can ONLY lock/unlock with the remote key? They WERE NOT THINKING ABOUT THE CUSTOMERS. THAT WAS STUPID.

It is very disappointing to hear from other Jeep owners that Jeep is NOT OWNING UP TO their DEFECTS. I have also received a traffic ticket for their TAIL LIGHT DEFECT! I would like someone from Jeep to contact me immediately to let me know what Jeep is going to do about this. I suggest send me a voucher or check to make these repairs AGAIN! Or contact a local dealer in my area and let them know I will be coming to make these repairs AT NO CHARGE!...

I have reported my issues to Jeep directly on their website, and I will be calling them first thing Monday morning at 1-800-853-1403. I suggest everyone do the same. They are claiming there's nothing wrong with their car. This is because everyone has come out of pocket several times to try and fix it without contacting them directly. I'll never purchase another Jeep again.

How do you get a ticket because of a lift gate lock? It sounds like it has been a pretty good car only replacing locks in 108000 miles. I know it is a pain but have you thought someone may be putting the locks or lift gate together wrong?

It says he received the ticket because of the tail light defect, not because of the lift gate problem.

Overly priced junk

Faults:

Bad air bag sensor at 50 miles.

Oil leak at 35 K.

Bad fuel injector at 45 K.

Electrical problems: passenger side window, rear hatch lock, hatch open light, rear window wiper. Intermittent check engine light issues.

Vibration in front end over 55 MPH since inception.

Exhaust knocking against body since inception.

General Comments:

Generally speaking the car runs well, but its constant problems since I've owned it have been an annoyance.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L from North America

Summary:

For the most part, it's okay

General Comments:

I own a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport, and my vehicle, like those of many individuals on this site, exhibits a rather severe front end vibration/shimmy at around 45-55mph. I was told at a local repair shop that one of the tires had a broken belt, but this wasn't the case.

Also, my key tended to get stuck in the ignition for long periods of time. I could turn the key forward and restart the engine, but after turning the engine off I could not get the key out. I realized that on my Jeep, however, it was not the ignition but a worn automatic transmission shifter. If I push the shifter for slightly forward the key comes out every time (has for about two years with no problem). While this is clearly not the cause of the ignition woes for all on this site, perhaps it may help someone.
