2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport review from North America
"A rugged all purpose vehicle"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Main bearing seals and sump gasket at 160,000km.
Serpentine belts at 60,000km and 120,000km.
AC clutch at 130,000.
General comments?
This is a great and iconic vehicle. But it's not a sports car.
It is a reliable and comfortable vehicle, which will tow a boat or go seriously off road in standard trim.
It drives very well and is very reliable.
My prior '92 Cherokee rusted out the floors, but this one is rust-free at nine years old.
Access to the rear seats is tight, and the rear bench is better for kids than big adults.
I have 175,000 miles on this one, sold the '92 at 259,000 miles and it's still running (though rusty).
I plan to keep this one forever.
If you want a JEEP, buy a JEEP. If you want a supermarket and kindergarten cruiser, a Jeep is not the best choice.
If you want towing ability for your 2000lb boat, the Jeep is good. If you want 30mpg, the Jeep is not good.
