2004 Nissan Maxima from North America

Model year2004
Year of manufacture2004
First year of ownership2006
Most recent year of ownership2009
Engine and transmission Don't Know
Distance when acquired24000 miles
Most recent distance106000 miles

Summary:

Terrible

Faults:

My transmission is going out, and I have 106K miles on my car. I thought Nissan made good cars.. boy was I wrong. I called Nissan and they would not do anything about it. I have the same problems that everyone else is having (jerking b/w 1st and 2nd gear). What's the use in having a nice looking car, when the parts under the hood are a piece of crap?!!

General Comments:

I reported them to FTC and National Hwy Traffic Safety. We should all do this, and maybe we will get some type of assistance.

2004 Nissan Maxima SE from North America

Year of manufacture2004
First year of ownership2004
Engine and transmission Semi-Automatic
Distance when acquired9 miles
Previous carToyota Camry

Faults:

I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima, of course out of warranty, and all hell breaks loose.. in and out of the shop every other month since the warranty expired.

Now I have the same transmission problems as everyone else on this site. Go up hill.. no way it got over 20 hardly.

Auto shift stuck in 5th yes... engine stalling, hard to start. Took it in, well it's still there; they said it's the cam sensor and the crank shaft sensor, two parts under 90 bucks each, and they want 700 dollars to replace them! OK, so I pay it? And what comes in November? I might as well have a car payment since I am paying out chunks every other month for repairs..

Obviously this is an issue with this make of vehicle. What will it take to get Nissan to recognize it and perhaps a recall! By the way, they did say my tranny looks good.

2004 Nissan Maxima SE 3.5 from North America

Year of manufacture2004
First year of ownership2008
Most recent year of ownership2009
Engine and transmission 3.5 Automatic
Distance when acquired50000 miles
Most recent distance124000 miles
Previous carNissan Maxima

Summary:

What a mistake!!!

Faults:

Transmission shifting "hard" between first and second gear when accelerating, and downshifting hard when braking. My recommendation is for everybody with this complaint to go to this site and make a formal complaint. Until a sufficient number of formal complaints are made, nothing different will happen.

Contact https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ to report this problem. If enough complaints are received, a recall will be forthcoming.

General Comments:

Beautiful car with too many problems mechanically...

Summary:

This is truly a great car

Faults:

- Replaced front struts at 70,xxx

- I can't figure out a rattle up front.

That's it from 48,000 to 90,000 miles.

General Comments:

It is a late model 04, so I don't experience a lot of the common problems of the cars built in 03.

So far, I have put a lot of highway miles on it, and it is a great cruiser. Engine is still smooth.

I've driven many BMW's, Audi, Lexus, and the Maxima is truly on par with the majority of them when it comes to everyday driving.

Summary:

Worst car of all time

Faults:

Transmission has a defect.

General Comments:

I brought this car because my father and mother were owners of Nissan cars, and never really had any issues with them.

I bought a 2004 Maxima and had nothing but issues from the very beginning. I am so disappointed with Nissan.

My car jerks violently when I am driving at low speeds through town. My car shifts from 1st to 2nd gear and is quite scary. I have never owned a car with so many problems... Nissan has lost my business FOREVER!!!

Faults:

I bought a 2004 Nissan Maxima in December 2005. Since then I feel like I bought the bearer of bad news.

When I got it, it was at the dealer four times for the rattling noise coming from the timing chain. All they did was give it a quick fix there, but 30,000 miles later later I had to put a new transmission in, new A/C low pressure lines, new oil cooler O ring. Which is a design flaw. I mean that every two months I am shelling out money into this piece of crap. Sorry for that, but it is.

Now I got a new surprise. My head gasket is blown. What the hell is wrong with this corporation. I owned 2 Toyotas and they had not one problem, and that's all I want to say about that.

!!! DO NOT BUY A NISSAN, PERIOD !!!

General Comments:

This is a piece of crap.
