2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.4 liter from North America

Summary:

A costly Lemon

Faults:

On the column shifter the button you press to put it into gear pops out periodically. You cannot change gears without it.

The brakes went out after they had just been replaced only 20000 miles ago. Not to mention the rotors had to be replaced as well.

I had to have the power steering pump replaced recently.

I've had to replace my headlamps twice.

Finally, my transmission is skipping really bad and I have no way of checking my transmission fluid because they didn't install a dipstick.

General Comments:

This car's overall performance is good. As long as nothing is going wrong with it a week or two down the road.

I would definitely not recommentd buying this car.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.2 from North America

Summary:

Decent first or second car

Faults:

Absolutely nothing!

General Comments:

I am 20 years old and my parents purchased a Sunfire for me when I got my lisence. I opted for a Grand Am for my second car, after the lease on the Sunfire expired. I drive this car to and from school every day, and the car runs just fine. It handles well at high speeds (120+ km/h) It has decent power (nothing compared to my parents Maxima and E320.) The safety of this car saved my life when involved in a really ugly accident. Will I buy another pontiac?? I think given the price I can find a bargain on a used A4 or 3 series.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am from North America

Summary:

Roomy car with expensive electrical problems

Faults:

I had the hazard light system replaced due to the recall.

Now my turn signals are working on and off. The clicking never stops. The lights work, but it just keeps clicking. Is there a recall for this part of the electrical system. It's supposed to cost 250 dollars to fix. Did I get ripped off?

The front doors (it's a 4door) leak when it rains really hard, but this doesn't bother me.

Sometimes the volume control doesn't work correctly. You are turning it up, but it actually gets softer! This is very annoying.

General Comments:

I really like it, but I have a bad feeling something else expensive is going to happen. It's roomy and I can fit tons of stuff in it (considering I've moved 2 times with this car).

Hey I was reading your comment about your Grand Am. I've had my 2001 Gt in the shop too for the same noise. It is very annoying. Mine ticks at like 2-3 the speed of the normal turn signal. And this is when the turn signal isn't even on. When I took it into the shop they changed the hazard switch. I got back in my car and turned the key and it was ticking again. So I just got back out and the guys were dumbfounded. Maybe as if I wasn't going to hear it or something. But yeah its going back to the shop in a few days because my back brakes are rubbing. Tell me if any of this sounds familiar. Hiddenpotentialz@aol.com.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4L V6 from North America

Summary:

Great ride!! too bad they stopped making it! the new model is ugly!

Faults:

There was an issue with the "smog system" and my check engine lamp came on due to that. The car was still under the 'bumper to bumper 36k mile war" so the dealer fixed this. THey blamed the issue on my locking gas cap, which was a replacement for the OEM gas cap. I strongly feel the dealer popped off my cap, reset the code and sent me on my way. There was something else wrong. Also on my 30,000 service, b/c this was my first new car I paid $500 for the service and the dealer didn't do a thing on their list except the oil change. What a waste of money. Their reason was, it didn't need to be changed. Well, the list says "ITEMS TO BE CHANGED" not items to be checked. Also, I have proof they never checked anything b/c the other 3 spark plugs are a pain to get to.

General Comments:

Great Great car. Going on a long cruise and having the engine barely trying at 2100 RPM at 75mph!! Mileage is great if you don't race it! Name a sporty car that has a trunk and room for 2 adults in the back seat. Can't name one can you? I couldn't either. Camero's are crap and so are mustangs. One has a trunk (stang) the other has neither (camero). The Grand AM has a BIG TRUNK and ROOOm for 5 people. My Grand AM after being four years old still smells new on the inside and the pain shines better than it did at the dealer. Again, take care of your car and it will take care of you.
