2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Special Edition 3.8 V6 Supercharged from North America

Summary:

Best car I have ever owned!

Faults:

Replaced intake manifold at 61,000 miles. Funny thing is the dealer told me when I was buying it to replace it at 60 k, and I had to anyway.

Water was leaking through passenger window into passenger back seat after I bought it. Took it back twice and the dealer fixed it.

Couple of recalls - including brake fluid might leak and cause a fire - don't park in the garage!

General Comments:

I love this car! It is Artic white and with the Special Edition racing rails, badges, hood scoops, spoiler and rims, it is quite a looker.

I installed a cold air intake, and took out the u-bend and replaced it with a straight pipe in the exhaust for a little more kick.

I had a 1989 Grand Prix that I finally got rid of at 207,000 miles, so I plan to keep this around. Who knows, since no more Pontiac, maybe it will become valuable. :)

2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1L V6 from North America

Summary:

I like this car, it's fun to drive and it goes really good for a 3.1L

Faults:

Well, I had purchased this car from my aunt and uncle for a relatively good price, but I have a couple of problems that I would just like to bring to your attention:

1) The stereo will constantly skip on CD's and the light won't work on the HUD of the stereo (sometimes it will just magically come on for one drive, then the next time I turn it on it won't work), it is starting to tick me off.

2) Sometimes just after I start the vehicle after I put her in drive, it makes kind of a grinding (may not be the best word to describe the noise) after about 3 seconds upon driving forward, this problem is concerning me and I just want to find out what the said problem is.

Thanks.

2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8 from North America

Summary:

The bad ruins the good

Faults:

Immediately the door handle broke.

Within the first year, numerous areas of the plastic performance styling panels began to de-laminate from the door.

At 33,000, the windshield wiper fluid pump quit working.

A short time later, the fuel pump quit working.

At 40,000, all the lights flicker intermittently, often still do, shop could not locate the problem.

I have replaced the wheel bearing & ABS speed sensors on both sides.

Transmission went out.

General Comments:

I love the car when nothing is wrong with it... the problem is that seldom happens.

2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Supercharged 3.8 Series II from North America

Summary:

I would say good for a first car, but not for someone who needs something very reliable

Faults:

I have had my share of problems, but they always seemed to be standard vehicle maintenance which must be done to any car, especially one with this many miles.

But of all days, today is my daughter's birthday and we packed the car to go to her party, and guess what, the battery is dead. Well all in all I couldn't figure out why the battery died until I put a jumper on and the air was blowing. Now when I say the air was blowing, I mean the key wasn't in there but the blower was blowing air. Now I know some thing about cars, but this one has me. I checked all the wires, nothing seems to be melted or crossed. Anyone have this problem before or can help me?

General Comments:

This car has been very reliable most of the time. It is loaded and very nice. But from personal experience, Pontiac has serious issues when it comes down to the electrical system.

Stuck relay, when you parked the car and turned it off, I bet the blower was running.

2001 Pontiac Grand Prix Basic 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

I keep hoping someone will crash into me

Faults:

It all started with the intake manifold, which basically separates all that is toxic within the motor. I don't know if it was just this particular year, but the IM was made of plastic???

Needless to say, I had coolant mixing with my oil. After going in for a radiator flush, I was told my transmission had no 4th gear, that my heads would need to be replaced, and that my bearings were shot.

General Comments:

A piece of junk. Pulls hard and can corner fairly well but jeez, everything just went to junk immediately when I acquired it (it was my Dad's company car).

Stereo stinks... the heater/AC did not work properly, and the undercarriage quickly became a real eyesore.

Seats are not exactly comfortable, and the turn radius absolutely stinks.
