Alternator went out at 40,000 miles. Brakes are a constant problem, costing about $400 dollars every 9 months. Battery problems, automatic locks stopoed working. Passenger door handle broke loose. The antenna motor died... just to name a few.
It have some very nice speed pick up, and it looks great when it is clean. But, the cost of maintenance was so dissappointing that I will probably never look at buying a Pontiac again. It handles very nice and is comfortable inside. The problem is the constant maintenance. If you don't mind that, go and get one!
You shouldn't blame one bad experience on Pontiac. My wife has the 1996 GP Special Edition and as for maintenance, replaced a battery and alternator (it worked just low output) and of course the normal wear and tear. Also replaced the belt for Genral Purpose. Her car has 98,108 and it's been a good car.
