1999 Pontiac Sunfire 2DRSE from North America

Summary:

I like this car

Faults:

I have had the car for over a year now. Bought it used for cheap. Turning light burned out twice, other than that nothing else has gone wrong.

General Comments:

Fuel economy is OK; not great, not bad.

Acceleration is decent, definitely acceptable.

I like the car and would buy it again. I think it is a great second hand deal if it does not have too many kilometers on it and has been well kept.

1999 Pontiac Sunfire Sedan from North America

Summary:

Great little affordable car. Love it!

Faults:

The only thing that has gone wrong since I have owned it is the block heater plug broke off in the middle of a very cold winter.

General Comments:

Very cute looking outside, and the inside is durable and seats are made of tough tweed like material. Perfect for wear and tear.

Starts without being plugged in even on the coldest winter days -40 for example.

Quite cheap on gas. About 35.00-40.00 to fill from empty depending on gas prices at the time.

Great for commuting short distances. About an hour is good. After that the seats are quite uncomfortable.

No options such as air conditioning, CD player, or cruise, which is a disappointment. Also the cup holder in the front is right in front of my shifter, which is horrible. I have knocked over many drinks.

With my 5 speed I can quite easily pass someone on the highway quickly. Would like a little bit more juice some days however. Doesn't really throw you into your seat as you accelerate.

Lots of trunk room for anything you need to put in it.

1999 Pontiac Sunfire from North America

Summary:

A great reliable car... I love mine

Faults:

I did have problems with the clear coat on the hood of the car peeling in spots. Other than that, it was only minor typical repairs like a muffler strap, a gas line leak, and that is it.

General Comments:

I find it to be very reliable. It spends winters here in upstate New York outside in the cold and always starts right up and runs fine. A fairly comfortable ride even in long distances. The fold down back seat allows larger than one would expect storage.

I actually love this car and I have had many many cars in my lifetime.

1999 Pontiac Sunfire SE 2.2L from North America

Summary:

Great car!

Faults:

Replaced leaky head gasket when bought.

The car seems to run hot.

General Comments:

This has been a great car that is fun to drive and so far reliable.

As stated above, it seems to run hot; the gauge goes almost into the warning zone. I've had the thermostat replaced twice. The cooling fan will come on with the A/C, but sporadically whilst the temperature gauge is nearing the warning zone.

Overall, this car has been great.

1999 Pontiac Sunfire coupe 2.2 from North America

Summary:

It's a sunfire people, A.K.A. transportation

Faults:

Wheel bearing, Strut tower bushing, Dash instruments, A/c pulley bearing.

General Comments:

I bought this 2 door coupe with 60,000 km and drove the crap out of it with near zero maintenance and have had no real problems with it. The seats are comfortable with lots of head room for tall people. Basically you get what you pay for, A cheap car that lasts through its warranty and then toss it in the trash and get something else.

1999 Pontiac Sunfire SE from North America

Summary:

Has its issues, but a good first car overall

Faults:

Needed a new alternator at 64,000.

Odometer stopped working when alternator was replaced, keeps going back to 64,000 every time car is restarted. No idea how many miles are on the car.

Driver side window breaks all the time. 3 times so far.

Driver side window will roll down, but not back up until the car has been shut off and then restarted.

Odometer numbers disappear sometimes; have to hit instrument panel to get them to come back on.

Volume knob on radio comes off sometimes.

Volume sometimes will go up when you try and turn it down.

Cover on brake pedal came off.

Car makes loud screeching noise in winter if I don't allow it enough time to warm up.

A/C and heat is either too hot or too cold.

Cup holder is in an awkward place, and sometimes cups will knock into the gear shift, throwing me into another gear.

Does this weird shaking thing sometimes when I stop; it's not the brakes, I have them replaced regularly.

Driver side speaker went out.

General Comments:

Has a lot of pick up.

Has good gas mileage. I can drive 320 miles home going between 65 and 80 mph on one tank of gas.

I am really rough on cars (3 minor accidents) and it hasn't fallen apart on me.

I don't get oil changes as much as I should, and the car still works great.

Feels very safe.

Fun to drive.

Affordable.

I drive almost 800 miles every month (I go to law school 5 hours away from home) and the car has not yet given out on me on the highway.

Reliable.

Sporty.
