1999 Pontiac Sunfire SE 2.2L from North America

Summary:

It's a good little car!

Faults:

Nothing really, except the brakes rattle and shake when the roads are wet. I took it in and got the brake pads replaced and 2 months later it's doing it again.

I don't find it very good on gas.

General Comments:

Saved my butt when I slewed one day, meaning it had great handling.

It's an easy car to park.

It has a pretty good stereo for a casette deck (I'm too lazy to put in a cd player). I don't find the pickup very good for it as an automatic I think a standard firefly could kick it's butt, but really, do I need the power? If you're looking for real power a Sunfire isn't your car.

The back seat could have more room. I find the seats kind of hard and the material too rough.

It's basically a good car for the money, good reliability, and fun to drive.

1999 Pontiac Sunfire GT 2.4L L4 from North America

Summary:

Ever wonder why there are so many of these cars on used car lots??

Faults:

The car had transmission noises from the first month of ownership. The Getrag transmission is known to be noisy, but this car had serious scraping and grinding noises which worsened during colder weather.

The clutch at startup made grinding noises until fully warmed up.

General Comments:

General Motors would not fix this car and stated that they could not, even though they admitted to a manufacturing defect. I took the company to arbitration (check your owner's manual!) and won my case. GM had to buy the car back from me for a very reasonable price. Side note: The same model car, a 2000, was bought back through the same process at the same dealer, at the same time.

1999 Pontiac Sunfire Sadan SE 2.2 from North America

Summary:

A great car for the money

Faults:

The only thing that I would change is the seats in this wonderful care. When taking trips over an hour and a half my back does start to get really sore from the seats.

General Comments:

This being my third car I think it runs great. It seems to have a lot of get up and go when getting on the freeway. I really enjoy this car. It has a great sound system and with the CD player already in it I didn't have to spend money to put a system in it. With all the perks that the fully loaded Sunfire offers I don't think I could really ask for more!

1999 Pontiac Sunfire GT twin cam 2.4 turbo upgrade from North America

Summary:

My white diamond

Faults:

The seal for the right driving shaft went out, and my ABS went out. But I got revenge; I modified the the ABS system, and most of the car.

General Comments:

The car handles like a princess once dropped 4".

Add a turbo and nothing stands in your way.

I started my project as soon as I bought it.

I added a turbo and an air intake; 2 intake pipes on each side, plus a new skirt by RS racing.

17" OZ with 205-30-17 wheels.

On the motor there is vector fuel management, and I chromed most of the motor.

To top it off, a stainless steel exhaust.

From 150 stock hp to 280hp, now the car is my pride and joy.

I have a 2002 pontiac sunfire and I wanted to know were you got your products, such as your turbocharger and intakes because I have already gotten the fiberglass hood, the spoiler and the ground effects skirt, but know I want to go to the motor

1999 Pontiac Sunfire SE Coupe 2.4 Liter Twin Cam from North America

Summary:

A fun car to drive, and great to own!

Faults:

I have had no problems at all with this car!

General Comments:

The 2.4L Sunfire is a quick little four cylinder car. Not at all sluggish, and has no problems reaching interstate speed.

For a small car, the Sunfire is also quite comfortable. Even the back seat, which you would expect to be cramped, is adequate for two adults.

The factory installed 6 speaker sound system sounds much better than many factory systems.

The Sunfire coupe is fun to drive! It is gas efficient, sporty, and with a few easy modifications you can get a lot of admiring looks!

My friend has a 2.2L 4-door and he gets 35+ mpg and is pretty quick. He let me drive it and I couldnt believe how good it handled and how sensitive the brakes were. Last time we went to the gas station, he put $20 in the tank and the needle was over the full sign. GREAT GAS ECONOMY. I am actually going to buy one in the future, preferably the GT, or 2.4L TWIN CAM for that little extra boost.

I am looking for a Sunfire for some economical commuting. Anyone have real measured MPG figures for a manual trans?

These comments about performance and racing are amusing - when did the automotive world start considering 4 cylinder mazdas, escorts, and sunfires as performance cars??
