2000 Pontiac Sunfire SE review from North America
"Much much better than I originally expected!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
A ridge wore into the brake drum, preventing it from coming off. The back brakes still work perfectly, so I haven't looked at it much.
Low coolant sensor float sometimes sticks, throwing a low coolant warning when it's actually full.
Rear drivers speaker died unexpectedly. Not blown, just simply dead.
Busted radiator hose, easily replaced.
General comments?
Honestly, this car really surprised me. I bought it because it was a great deal for the mileage and condition it was in, expecting it to be a good little commuter car for university. Since then, though, it's quickly become my favourite out of 4 previous cars.
I wouldn't exactly call it powerful, but the 2200 engine is definitely peppy enough for easy highway driving, and gas mileage is fantastic, both on the highway and in the city.
Some parts, like the plastic glovebox and clips holding everything together, show their cheapness, but as long as you can look past some of that, you'll find a mechanically wonderful little car.
