1987 Toyota Corolla LX review from North America
"Average to good high mileage small car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
First and foremost was the brakes. They wore out consistently on average every two years. This being the rotors either being replaced or worked on.
Second, the muffler had to be replaced (specifically the underneath piping would rust out) on average every two years.
Between getting the brakes worked on or replacing the muffler piping (which of course is not covered under any warranty) became quite expensive.
The front headlight bulbs seemed to go quite often. I probably had to replace at least one bulb every year and a half or so over a ten year period.
General comments?
I owned this Toyota Corolla LS from (purchased new in 1987) till I sold it to my sister-in-law in 1999 - a span of just over 11 years.
The 1.6 L engine coupled with an overdrive auto transmission was all right for around town driving. It had resonable power for the highway although getting up to highway speed or attempting to pass at highway speed was a challenge.
The seat comfort, visibilty and overall ride was really good. Gas mileage was super and original tire wear was was great. I replaced the original tires after 7 years of use.
