1998 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 review from North America
"Most powerful and reliable truck made"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Replaced water pump at about 280,000km for around $300 from GM.
Put around $1000 into front end work for ball joints and tie rod ends.
Alternator at 300,000.
Fuel pump at 310,000.
Transfer case chain came off and punched a hole in the side of the case while 4x4ing in the ditch (for work, I wasn't just being stupid haha) $1800 to replace with a reman.
That's it, not bad for having 360,000km on it!
General comments?
This truck is one of the best. It's a real workhorse and will tow anything you can hook on to it. We pull a 20' open trailer quite a bit for hauling lumber, quads, sleds and stuff like that and it pulls it without a problem. Also a tandem stock trailer once in a while. Acceleration is awesome, and power is very smooth. Trans shifts very smooth, you can hardly notice when you don't have your foot in it. I have put a cold air intake, throttle body spacer, MSD plug wires and coil, flowtech shorty headers and true duel exhaust. Have been able to improve mileage from 16 to 20 on the highway. I also love the looks of this truck and parts are very easy to get. Has 360,000 + kms on it and don't think it will give up anytime soon. More reliable than any foreign vehicle.
