Faults:

Replaced the water pump, fuel pump and alternator at 135,000 miles.

Replaced EGR valve at 155,000 miles.

General Comments:

This has been a cheap vehicle to own. Beyond regular maintenance only $1200 spent on parts in 6 years.

This truck has taken a beating, off road, towing boats, snowmobiles, other vehicles, campers and has kept on running strong.

It doesn't leak or burn any fluids.

It has maintained it's performance & fuel economy.

I will run this vehicle until it dies. I'll be very surprised if it doesn't run strong through 250,000 miles. My only regret is not buying a K2500.

Faults:

Replaced the water pump at 78000 miles. My driver's side door (interior) handle just broke off at 83000.

General Comments:

Can anyone tell me how to replace my drivers side, interior, door handle. Dealer wants to charge $110. Plus the price of the part.

Faults:

Well the rear axle needed replacing at about 80,000 miles. @ $600.00.

Starter replaced last winter. (around 85000) @ 120.00.

General Comments:

This truck is my baby! I inherited this truck and being 16 with a truck like this is awesome.

The truck has over 98,000 miles on it, and it is excellent condition.

I can still see my face in the paint. The interior is still..almost like new. I spent $1000 and had Flowmasters put on it.

A/C is still as cold as when I bought it. The truck is from North Carolina so it has absolutely no rust.

It has been through one winter and absolutely sucks in the snow because it isn't a 4 wheel drive.

The stereo systems kicks anything stock out of the water and rides so smooth like a Cadillac, even with the extended cab.

The turning radius kind of blows, but what can you expect with a shortbed extended cab truck? Acceleration is absolutely incredible. But in my opinion the brakes suck you have to push down too far to stop it.

It has normal 3000 mile servicing and a once a week washing and buffing and steam cleaning.

I'd pick this truck even over a Hummer.

When things break they are expensive, but for the little it's broken and cost in repairs (about $800), it has been worth it. But for being 6 years old I think that's awesome.

Faults:

Water pump, a common failure on these vehicles, but covered and replaced under warranty.

Transmission started slipping around 65000, however, I did some incredible feats with this truck up to that point, e.g. towing an 11000lb pontoon boat about 150 miles, pulling a 12'x6' dual axle trailer from CT to Fla, a '78 nova on a flat bed from Ct to Penn, a couple of field hopping stints, and some smoked tires. I paid $2400 to have it rebuild and built up. I'm having problems with it shifting between 3rd and 4th from 40mph to 65mph, but the rebuild is still under warranty.

I also have the turning problem, but these reviews have given me insite into corrections.

General Comments:

This truck has been my life blood and life saver for the past 3 years. It's not a great handler, nor is it the best mpg vehicle on the market, but I couldn't see me in anything else, not even a new one. (What was the General thinking, dropping the 5.7L aka 350!?) I would, however, like to convert mine to a standard. I can't find any material about doing this swap. I know the 4L60 automatic is not the most note worthy piece of machinery to ever come out the Generals garage. But I don't even know what kind of manual was offered in these trucks.

Overall, there's no truck out there that can compete with my '98 Z-71, accept maybe a '97 or '96 Z.
