1994 Dodge Intrepid review from North America

Air conditioner compressor fell off engine at 50,000 miles. It could not be fixed because the engine block mount was broken. It had to have a new engine.

Tie rod ends broke at 60,000 miles. They are about gone again. Transmission had to be replaced at 50,000 miles ($2,000) ; it is going bad again! Rear suspension damping arms come apart about every month. The front end cannot be aligned because the frame welds are coming apart. This has been welded again, but it cannot be made straight again. The welding shop says they see this in the Intrepid all the time. O2 sensors, crankshaft sensor, idle bypass valve, and many other failures have occurred.

This is definitely the lowest quality in a vehicle I have ever experienced (and I have owned two Fiats). The materials in this car are the cheapest I have ever encountered. The dealer tells me that the problem with the transmissions is a plastic, yes plastic, valve and that they cannot simply replace the valve, but that they have to replace the whole transmission and that 50,000 miles is about all you can expect from a Dodge transmission. Other owners have told me the same thing. Check the Internet for Intrepid problems and you will find that this is par for the course with the Intrepid and other Dodge products. Do not buy one. The extra price is well spent for any other brand.
